I have two devices, the Nokia N73 and E62. I have three Gmail accounts, one setup on the N73 and the other two on the E62. I have unlimited data on both phones, so I have the built-in email app set to automatically retrieve my emails every half hour (the most frequently it can). I don’t use Profimail cause frankly I don’t like it, plus the email button on the E62 can’t be re-programmed so I’m stuck.
But here’s the problem. I really don’t have too many complaints with the built-in Email app. I do hate that it leaves the header on the phone if you delete the email from the phone only, but other than that I’m a big fan. HOWEVER, there’s a HUGE problem with connection priorities…
If you have the built-in email app set to automatically retrieve
headers, and for whatever reason, when it goes to check them, it can’t
connect, (sending an sms, out of coverage, etc.) it just decides to
turn off automatic retrieval entirely. And all it does to notify you is
a quick beep and a pop up message that goes away on its own. This means
if it happens while your phone is in your suit pocket or briefcase or
something, you have no idea that you will no longer be notified of your
emails automatically.
And it’s not super convenient to turn back on, either, specifically if
you have multiple email boxes that you check. You have to go to the
inbox, options, scroll up to email settings, scroll down to automatic
retrieval, and re-enable it. You kinda feel lucky that it at least
saved any custom retrieval settings, like specific days or whatnot.
Why, if you’re momentarily out of coverage, does it just turn it off
completely? Why not just skip that retrieval, or adjust retrieval
intervals to connect again when coverage is available? Anyone at Nokia
reading my blog yet?
