Recap of Nokia’s CES 2007 Presence, I Say WTF!?

Personally, I was appalled at Nokia’s showings at CES this year. They essentially announced 4 "new" products. The first was the N800, which was technically announced a little while before the event. The N93i, N76, and 6131NFC rounded out the phones portion. I’ve already covered the phones, but something else, somewhat relevant, caught my eye as I was reading to catch up.
I promise you this is the only mention of the iPhone you will find on this blog. There are PLENTY of other places, if you really feel the need to discuss it. However, I just can’t pass this up. So the thing came out, finally, and everyone is whooping and hollering. Everyone, that is, except for Nokia. Their head of the Multimedia Unit, Anssi Vanjoki, was interviewed to get his perspective on this new competitor to the US market landscape. I say US cause it will be at least 6 months after the US launch before you see a European release. Anssi’s response to the iPhone was this (direct quote):
"It is quite an interesting product but it is lacking a few essential
features, such as 3G, which would enable fast data connections…"
Now, I’m sorry. I feel like the whole United States got pissed on by Nokia at CES. They make such a big showing for 3G in other countries, heck, they even produce alot of the back-end portion of it for the States. And yet, here we are, criticizing the competition for not including something we haven’t done, either, yet? Come on, Anssi. You’ve got to realize how hypocritical that statement was. Let’s see some US 3G love on the S60 front, please. I promise you I’ll buy it.

Er there are 3G version of some phone for the US e.g. N80-2, E70-2 etc.
@ Arne, You’re correct, there are “US versions” of 3G phones, but the problem is that they don’t have the US 3G frequencies (850/1900) to work with Cingular’s 3G network. Thus they aren’t useful “3G” phones for us in the States.
