Vito QuickContact Contact Manager

Quickcontacts
VITO Technologies has updated their QuickContacts software to be compatible with most S60v3 devices, and I recently had the opportunity to test it out on both my N73 and E62. QuickContacts isn’t an entire replacement for the built-in Contacts app, it’s merely a Contact Searching utility.

Quickcontacts_1With QuickContacts, you can search through your contacts in one of three ways.
The first is simply typing in the name of the contact you’re searching for, much like the built-in Contacts app. The main difference, however, is that with QuickContacts, you only have to press each button once, much like Windows Mobile. For example, with the built-in app, to find "Marcos," you’d have to type 627772226667777. With QuickContacts, you would only have to type 627267. MUCH faster.

There is a full trial available, after that only $9.95 will have you a full-on application. Not too shabby.

Even better is that once you get your name, you merely click once to pull up that contact’s page. You then are presented with plenty of options. This includes Call, SMS, MMS, and Email (if you have an email address for that contact). VERY handy.

The next "panel" is even better. It offers a map of the d-pad, with letters designated to each direction. You can customize this screen to use 9 boxes, or only the main 4, whichever you prefer. You can also select what language this screen utilizes. I found this extremely handy if you are driving or not able to look at the keypad, as you can do everything with the d-pad.

The final panel is a bit more different. It offers 5 small boxes along the bottom of the screen. To use this screen you merely scroll through your contacts and once you get to the first letter, you click to the right, to enter that number in the first box. Continue until you find the contact you’re looking for.

The greatest part of this application is that it also searches Company names, if you have those entered into the contact’s information. The main drawback to this software (much like ALON Contact Guide) is that it does not support the QWERTY keyboard on my E62, I am limited only to the numberpad in middle of the keyboard.

Other cons:

1. When searching, after you click the d-pad to be able to select a contact, pressing the "send" button doesn’t do anything. You must click twice to pull up the contact’s information before using the "send" key.

2. After making a selection from the Contact’s information screen, when you go back to the app, you are stuck in that screen and must back out of it with a combination of the "Cancel" and "C" buttons to get a fresh start.

3. On the panel screen that utlizes d-pad directions, it always recognizes all of the boxes, even the empty ones. This requires you to pause in between selections, to give the software time to go back to the default middle position.

My Rating: **** (reduced to *** if you have a QWERTY phone)
