Do You Really WANT To Watch Mobile TV?

I put this under personal rants cause it’s not really any 3GSM news, directly. Steve over at AllAboutSymbian has a great writeup about Mobile TV. He wants to know if you really think it’s a great idea. Personally, I have to side with Steve.

His basic point is this: with music on your phone, your ears are doing something, but the rest of your body is free to concentrate on more important stuff, like your surroundings, where you’re going, those sorts of things. However, with video, your eyes and full attention are focused on this little screen, rather than what’s going on around you.

I see this in other things, too, though. Video iPods, Album Art, what’s the point? I have Smartmovie on my phone, and have since I had the 6620. There’s a few movies that I have on there, but the only time I really use it is when I’m driving, and usually it’s on more for the background sounds of a familiar movie. I’d never watch something I’d never seen before.

It’s just something that I don’t see picking up. I’m more likely to believe that with TV-Out, video on phones is going to steer them more towards being portable DVD-players in a sense, rather than portable TVs entirely.

What do you think? Do you watch video on your mobile, and if so, do you find that it hurts your concentration and causes you to run into crap?
