New Category and Segment
As you might have noticed on the last post, I’ve added a new category, "Olly and the Guru." Basically Olly and I sometimes have long drawn out conversations via Gtalk, and they get really really good. Up till now, they just sit in either of our "history" logbooks, useless. Well yesterday’s was REALLY interesting (to me) and I thought I should share it. However, re-reading it, it’s probably 3-4 posts worth, so I decided to start this new segment.

Here’s some background on each of us, though:
I’m a recent college grad working at Time Warner Cable in Media Sales.
I sell commercial airtime, and love it. It’s tons of fun and I get to
meet all kinds of cool people. I’ve been obsessed with cellphones since
I was 16, started with a Qualcomm beast on Sprint and moved to Nokias
and at&t (previously Cingular, previously SouthWesternBellWireless)
and have been happy ever since. I’ve got a degree in Marketing and one
in Management, and I’m absolutely fascinated with the Mobile
Telecommunications industry, and what’s happened to it and is happening
in it.
Olly is going to have to update this field cause I don’t know much
about him, honestly. We met on HowardForums. I know he’s got a daughter
on the way, he’s a salesperson also, for a postage machine company.
He’s kept up with the mobile world as well, he was actually a beta
tester for T-mobile’s UMA test.
So that’s us. If you think you want to read conversations between us,
then do so. If you don’t, you’ll just have to skip over them.
Ok, so I’ll go ahead and update. I am in fact in sales, though it’s Postal Software, not machines (slight difference really, since I deal with the machines all day long as well lol). I do in fact have a daughter (our first) due in May … which means that May is going to be one of the craziest months of my life I’m sure.
I graduated with a B.A. Political Science and Philosophy from Pacific Lutheran University… which has nothing to do with anything I do in my life except for a couple of blogs that I’ve kept up dealing with Freethought issues in politics and religion.
I have been on HoFo for about 4 years now, and have been obsessed with gadgets and computers my whole life. I also run my own blog (shameless self plug) at http://ollywompus.wordpress.com/ … and as a teaser, I’ve got a review of the Linux powered n800 coming up in the next few weeks on that very blog.
Your Guru and I have been having some pretty good Telco related conversations over the past few weeks… some of which are fairly mundane (though interesting, not too groundbreaking) and some of which are VERY interesting (but can sometimes veer off into almost sci-fi/conspiracy theory territory!).
