Well this site has been up and running since Thanksgiving, and I’m overjoyed to see how it’s progressed. Thank you so much for reading it and hopefully passing the link on to your friends.
However, I was recently reading back through some of my old posts and come across some things that I had promised to add/implement/change and haven’t done. I also have a list of things that are in the works, and wanted to share them with my readers.
If you click through, you’ll find some of the things I’m going to
implement. I plan to relaunch the site with most of these improvements
on Tuesday, Feb 20th. I have the 19th off from work and have set aside
that day to do ALOT of work on Symbian-Guru.com
I’d like to ask for feedback, as well. What’s something that you’d like to see more of, less of, changed, or what do you like about Symbian-Guru.com.
Here’s the things that I’d promised:
1. Freewares list – with screenshots and ratings. This is obviously a work-in-progress as more and more apps are released. Currently I’ve been labelling these with the "applications" category.
2. Noob Corner – this is actually one of the main reasons that I started Symbian-Guru.com and regretfully I’ve yet to really address this. However, I have been working on this and have a series of video how-to’s for Symbian from a newcomer’s standpoint. Everything from opening the box on, in 3-5min segments. Watch for these to show up in a month or so
3. Digg, Delicious, and Technorati links – this is implemented, but honestly, it disgusts me every time i see it, the bottom portion of my posts is so ugly. I’m going to be cleaning that up soon, very soon.
4. I’m going to be moving to a Pro Typepad account and will be adding a links bar at the top of the page. From here you will be able to find my blogroll, the about me page, and categories. I’m still working out the details in my head.
5. I want to make this site easier to navigate. Specifically older posts. I hate it when I check my stats and see the same post being viewed over and over again. If you have any ideas as to how to better organize this site so that it’s easier for you, please share.
6. I will also be adding a comments feed.
On a side note: you’ve probably noticed that I use Google Adsense on my blog. This isn’t a greedy move at all, it’s to cover expenses. I have a regular 9-5 job in addition to this blog. I do this in my spare time because it’s a personal enjoyment to me and I enjoy giving my contribution to the S60 community. I currently pull in less than $2/day in Adsense money. This helps to pay my hosting fees, buy some of the software that I review, and other blog-related expenses. I still buy my own phones.
Please don’t feel obligated to click on one or anything. I do my best to keep this blog updated as often as I can, or as often as I see news. I will confess, there are times that other sites have information before I do. There’s also times when I’ll get a piece of information before anyone else, and decide that it’s not really worth posting about, and then it hits the blogosphere like a typhoon and I feel like a complete tool. Please bear with me.
My promise to my readers is that I will do my best to cover things that I think matter to the community, and will offer up my take on things. I hope that’s why you read this site. That and cause you like the monkey. :)
