Smart2Go and Mobile Search - Why Not In Download!?
![]()
So Nokia has recently released two major pieces of software:
Nokia Mobile Search - this is actually the combining of two softwares into one logical application. Nokia Mobile Search allows you to search the web for websites and images, as well as pull up maps, and now you can also search your local device. The local device search was previously a separate app, and it allows you to search through contacts, calendar entries, and pretty much ANYTHING on your phone, from one convenient place.
Nokia Maps - a free GPS service, Nokia Maps gives you the maps for free, and then you can buy extra stuff like City Guides and Turn-By-Turn Navigation. Works pretty good, I’ll put up a comparison against TomTom soon.
However, I have to wonder, why aren’t these apps both found in my Downloads! app yet? I would think, given that these apps work on ANY S60v3 device, they’d be automatically loaded into all products and all regions. I should think that’d be the standard operating procedure, as I thought that’s what Download! was FOR. So the next press release shouldn’t be "you can go to www.blahblahblah.com to get this app." It should be "And now if you all refresh your Download! application, you’ll see you can download and install this application RIGHT NOW."

Just as long as those of us without unlimited data plans are still able to go to http://www.blahblahblah.com.
Ricky, I sent your suggestion to the people behind Nokia Maps, Search, and Download! client here at Nokia. Check out what Toni replied: http://blogs.s60.com/tommi/2007/02/smart2go_and_mobile_search.html#comment-15580
Thanks for the idea

[...] remember when Nokia’s on-device search application went from just internet searching to in-device searching, and then with the N95 8GB and N81, it found its home on the standby screen of the Nseries devices. [...]
