Ins And Outs of the Nokia N75

Dsc01033Christmas comes early around here!! I realize that I said you had to wait till tomorrow, but I’m an impatient guy and I want to share my goodies with you. Also, I don’t think the Talkshoe thing would work like I wanted it to, so here’s the plan:

I’m going to release all my pics on Flickr and post the slideshow here. You can look through them and drool all over your keyboard and whatever. Then you can leave a comment with whatever questions you may want answered about the Nokia N75. I will answer as many as I possibly can in a follow-up post tomorrow evening.

I hope that’s ok with everyone. I would really have liked to have done a video thing, but I just can’t figure it out and I have a huge proposal tomorrow afternoon and I’m just plain stressed. Plus, this way if you’re late to the game, you can catch up on what’s been asked and answered. Please don’t email your questions, it’ll be SO much easier to keep track of if they’re all in comments. Thanks.

So here you go. Please look through the photos before posting a question, as it might have been answered in a photo or something.

*Edit* And thanks to Darla Mack for the title. Also, please don’t ask if it’s for sale or how much or any of that. It’s not for sale. Period.

  1. Sweet, how much do you want for it??

  2. FYI to keep from people asking, the last few pics in the slideshow were taken with N73 not N75, just for clarification. So don’t ask.

  3. wow!
Do you know when Cingular are going to finally sell this phone?
Also, how is the battery life?
I saw the model is N75-3. Does this “3″ mean anything?

Thanks for sharing the photos! I hope I can have one in my hand soon!

  4. Symbian-Guru Looks At The N75

Ricky, that Symbian-Guru has his hands on a Nokia N75 and has decided to give us the in’s and out’s of the device. Of course this might take a bit of time, but Ricky will be answering questions and posting

  5. Any out of memory errors while web browsing? How much RAM is free on startup? Any problems with Java apps? Thanks.

  6. OK, I cleaned up the drool, so a couple of quick questions:

    1) Did you already shove all of the stupid branded stuff into the “Crap” folder? I didn’t see it in the slideshow… actually, how much branding does it have?

    2) Any chance we could get a speedtest?

  7. Nice,

Does this have any of the feature packs installed into it?

  8. Nokia N75 Hands On

Ricky managed to get an N75 somehow and he is taking your questions. I only have one: go run a mobile speed test. Stat! Direct link to N75 Flickr gallery.

  9. Is the camera lens recessed enough, in your opinion, to keep it from getting scratched in a pocket?

  10. Speed baby speed - how’s the Cingular HSPDA running?

  11. I too got a hold of an N75,except I have a later firmware 10.2.020, 07-02-07. I think the phone is great except there must be an issue with this current firmware as I cannot load in a new playlist with the music player. I am going to check with my Nokia contact to see if this issue is prevelant in this release.

    Eric

  12. What would you say the “sexyness” of the phone is, on a scale of 1-10. 1 being a 6340i and 10 being a N73 Black(ME sucks but the housing is cool)???

  13. The phone is hot. I’d give it an 8.5. It’s not quite as wow as say a Moto RAZR was when it came out, but I love the feel and features of it.

  14. So does this phone have a2dp or not??

  15. Yes, it does have a2dp and it sounds great. The only issue the current firmware that it have does not allow for functions to work on the music player.

  16. So have you been able to detemine what the infamous “software bug” is that’s been the cause of the delays? If so, can you describe what it is or what might cause it?

W/ respect to Blutooth, does it support OBEX?

  17. Here is what my nokia contact says about the firm ware I am using, “It is a newer software build but may have a bit more work to do on the BT stereo side. I will let you know when new software upgrade is available. Week or 2. Let me know your feedback as you use the devices and demo further.”

I haven’t had a chance to try obex yet. I’ll keep you posted.

  18. Eric,

It appears as though you have the first firmware with Cingular’s Remington UI on it. As far as I understand, anyways, Cingular has a UI “enhancement” codenamed “Remington” that will be in place on most, if not all of their 3G phones from here on out. As far as I’ve heard along the way, after Nokia fixed whatever “structural” problems it had (I say had cause mine has NONE) Cingular (at&t) came back and said, wait, we want you to add our UI on there. That’s where the A2DP rumor came from. I haven’t tried mine with an A2DP headset yet, but will this afternoon. If mine doesn’t work with it, then I’m correct in that you have a much more “Cingular-ized” version.

I will have a detailed review posted tonite answering at the least all the questions posted above.

  19. how is the sound on this phone as far as the speakerphone and music is concerned? can you talk on speakerphone with the phone closed? can you view your missed calls from the outside screen, and return the call, without opening the phone?

  20. SDHC support?

  21. Did they cripple S60’s extensibility? Can you load up any .sis file you like? c++, java, python(pys60.sf.net :).. The ogg support extension for example..?

  22. Congratulations, dude! I’ll give Nokia a call up here and tell them to take my name off the waiting list.

Good luck with all the questions. :(

  23. Doesn’t the N75 need FP1 installed to give it A2DP capability?

  24. Rick,
Is that your phone? Video was great. When is it going to be released? Have u tried the stereo bt? Have you transferred any music to it? Info please.
