New Nokia RM-230, Possible 3250 Successor?
**Update** The guys at S60 Estranky have found a great advert for this device, giving it the number 5700, and confirming that it’s another one of Nokia’s XpressMusic handsets. Hopefully we’ll get more info at CTIA soon.
Olly has scored quite a fresh little find. Submitted to the FCC just yesterday (complete with confidentiality request for 45 days, so 3/16/07)) is the Nokia RM-230. There’s only one pic, and it’s of the back of the phone, but it’s still a pretty interesting find.
If you look at the pic sketch, you’ll notice a media playback/camera button in the middle of the bottom portion. Closer inspection of the drawing shows a separation between the bottom portion and the top, allowing for a swivel. Also, on the sides of this bottom portion is an indention for a camera, similar to the 3250, and some other indentions.
No clue as to whether it’s S60 or S40, but it does have Quad-band GSM (finally becoming somewhat of a standard), EDGE, Bluetooth, and WCDMA, though only one band (guess which one, probably). Battery is the BP-5M, the same as the N95, I believe.
Other accessories tested with the device include:
AC Charger AC-5
Audio Adapter AD-44 (implying music-oriented, but not with 3.5mm, sadly)
Headset HS-44
Data Cable DKE-2

The N95 battery is BL-5F. I’m not sure which battery that is.
BP-5M is used in the 7390, and maybe a couple others from what I can find.

It’s WCDMA 850/1900/2100 which is tri-band. Don’t believe me? We’ll see when it’s official, right?

Nanko, Thanks for the response, but if you follow the FCC link in my post, and click on the “Test Report” document at the bottom of the list, it clearly states: The EUT is a 5-band (GSM850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA Band I) mobile phone with GPRS, EGPRS and Bluetooth.
Ricky,
If you checked all the documents then you will see the presence of 850 and 1900 WCDMA … As I already told you - I may be wrong - but we will see this when the phone is officially announced.
Nanko,
We will agree to disagree on this. I did read through all the documents and saw 850 and 1900 testing but did not see where it was labeled as WCDMA, and since the US only uses GSM 850 and 1900, that would be the reasons that the FCC didn’t require testing of all four GSM bands, nor the WCDMA band.
However, we will have to agree to disagree until more details have been announced, either at an event, or on 3/16, when the confidentiality agreement expires.
Ricky,
I also agree the 3G could be 2100 only … I updated it in my article.
We’ll se when additional information is present (either from FCC or Official or rumor/spy).
Nanko.
