Mobile Calendaring - Success
Mobile Calendaring? Yep. If you’re like me, and have family events that you don’t know about till two days before, a girlfriend who plans things for you, and a busy work schedule, having a calendar on your device is required, as is being able to manipulate that calendar, as surely things change. It never fails that you’ll need to be able to see things quickly, and add things quickly, as well.
The S60 calendar that’s built-in is pretty powerful, in my opinion. It gets things done, giving you multiple views and allows you to add events on-the-go. One thing that I absolutely despise about S60 3rd Edition is that Tasks/To-Do items have been integrated with the calendar. I think this is the dumbest thing in the entire world, and actually is the reason I don’t use ToDo notes on my mobile anymore.
For the purposes of this experiment, I have been using Papyrus. Papyrus
gives you WAY more options than the built-in app, including categories,
and my personal favorite, being able to set the default sharing
property to "public" instead of "private". It’s a pretty cheap app,
only $18 for the full version, but there’s also a trial if you want to
test it out.
If you’re going to not be using your PC for a while, and do heavy
calendaring, I’d suggest Papyrus for it’s many options, as well as the
ability to add and view notes for calendar entries and categories. For
a full rundown on how it works, you can check it out here.
One thing I will say, also about Papyrus, is they are yet another app
that has a very involved and dedicated developer team. Questions are
answered quickly and they are constantly upgrading the software (which
full versions get free upgrades) so they’re always improving it. I will work on a full-fledged review of Papyrus, there’s just so much to it that I didn’t want to hijack this post for it.

Papyrus does rock, as well as their development team. They release a minor version every two to three weeks. Supposedly they are slowly working towards appointments being able to switch profiles… I’m looking forward to that. I constantly forget to switch my phone back to audible from silent.
Papyrus is a great calendar app but it is very memory hungry and also slow (at least on an N73. I haven’t tried on my N95 yet.)
if you want profile switching take a look at Best Profiles. I have it on trial and its flawless. It can aslo do other cool things. My N95 is set up to be silent from 11pm to 7am, only vibrate during calendar meetings, and automatically run TomTom when I put it on the cradle in the car.
