Mobio - Live the Web

Mobio
Mobio has launched an open beta of their GetMobio application. Intended to bring you the mobile web in a usable format, this app offers up chunks of the web as "collections" that are focused towards a specific activity. For "date night" there is a collection of apps for museums, flower shops, restaurants, etc. There’s 8 different collections, and you can personalize them and change them up.

Mobio also supports RSS, though when I checked out the Business 2.0 (the only magazine I subscribe to, and wouldn’t cancel for anything, btw) one I wasn’t able to read any more than the excerpt of the post. I didn’t see an option to import an OPML file, either, which, in my opinion, makes RSS useless in an app.

The cool thing is that it’s a java app, which means it works on literally any device from Cingular, T-mobile, or Sprint. Even the lowly RAZR V3 is supported, for those still clinging to a false sense of style. It’s totally free, other than the data charges that you’ll incur, so be sure to have a large or unlimited data bucket.

I firmly believe that the mobile web is incredibly useful, but more as a convenience than a necessity. With apps such as this and Widsets bringing the convenience factor to any java-enabled phone, I think we’ll start to see a big rise in Mobile Web usage by normob’s (Ewan’s Word, means Normal Mobile Users).
