New Nokias are HOT!

So Nokia finally announced the 8600 "Luna" today, but that’s not the whole story. They also announced the 6500 Classic and 6500 Slider. I normally don’t post info on S40 phones, cause, well, they’re not Symbian, but these phones are HOT, and represent several HUGE things for Nokia, so I think it’s important. You can get links to the good pages at the end of the post.

Two of them have 1GB of built-in memory. The third, the 6500 Classic, has support for MicroSD *up to 4GB*. That means SDHC! Finally!!

They also have a MicroUSB, which Stefan pictures here, and which unifies charging, data, and audio! (For some reason, though, the 8600 also has a 2.5mm headset jack. Dumb.)

And these phones are SEXY. The 6500 Classic is super-thin and sleek, and they’re all built with high-quality materials. All are Quad-band GSM, with the 6500s getting dual-band 3G (850/2100).

These are important because of the SDHC, MicroUSB (with charging) and the features that were previously reserved for high-end S60, such as TV-Out, are being brought to the mid-level range of S40, which tells me that we can start seeing that being standard in S60 devices soon.

  1. I don’t think keeping the 2.5 mm jack along with the micro usb is dumb! As of now if i wanna plug it into a music system i can’t use the micro usb to do that!

  2. @Vaibhav true but what music system has a 2.5mm jack, either? None that I know of.

  3. Now those are some nice phones…Hurry up Nokia and announce the N82 and N81 already!! Any new news on those phones Ricky? ^_^

  4. Hi,

The Luna don’t have a micro USB port (althought it looks like).
The 8600 has a new port which is used both for synch and charging the device.

I would also have prefered a micro USB port on this 8600

  5. Hey,

The 6500 isnt the first device to support SDHC. The N95 does :)
