Six Months Baby!!

Video_contestBelieve it or not, as of today, May 25th, 2007, Symbian-Guru.com has been live for 6 months!! It’s been a TON of fun, and there’s plenty more to come!! However, to celebrate this half-year occasion, I’ve decided that I want to see some creativity from my readers, so….

I’m going to host a VIDEO CONTEST!! That’s right, I want videos of the most creative thing you do with your S60 device. That’s it. I want to see the hundreds of different, far-out, and wacky and creative things that people do with their phones. The things that these "multi-media computers" allow you to do that make them worth the money.

There will be 1st-3rd place prizes, as well as some door prizes for different random (as yet to be made up are determined) entries. First place prize will be a $100 gift certificate to Handango’s software market, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be a Nokia BH-200 Bluetooth Headset, courtesy of T-Mobile Wireless. Prizes  yet to be determined, but I promise they will be worth it. So get your cameras ready and get creative! The contest is officially open, and will be until Monday, June 25th. You can check the official rules after the break.

And…….ACTION!

(Rules After The Break)

So here’s the rules:

  1. Must be submitted online (Youtube, Blip, Vimeo, Viddler, I don’t have a preference, but something embeddable)
  2. Must be G-rated - watch the language, and obviously the content. If you wouldn’t let your 5 year-old watch it, I don’t want to see it, either.
  3. Let’s not go over 5-7 minutes. That’s a long time, believe it or not.
  4. Must be relevant to the theme "Most Creative Thing You Do With Your S60"
  5. You can enter as many times as you want.
  6. Finalists will be narrowed down to 5-7 and a reader vote will decide the winner.
  7. There will be 1st-3rd place prizes, and some random goofy prizes if the content demands it.
  8. If you have a question, please email me at guru(a)symbian-guru(dot)com.
  9. To submit your video, post the link (do NOT embed it) to the video as a comment.
  10. Top finalists will be notified via email, and their video embedded in a final post for voting.
  11. Entries will be accepted until midnight of Monday, June 25th. Finalists will be announced soon after that.

  1. Hi,
The most creative thing I did when I first got the N95 was teach myself how to edit, using the N95, while on a 15 minute train ride. So I shot some video, added titles and credits and a music track. Then when I got to WiFi, I uploaded to the web.

It was very exciting to figure it all out…

  4. Hi,

I’ve actually bought the N93i for one purpose only, take short video’s and make them available online.

This because i’m a Dutchie living in Switzerland and just became a daddie.

Here the first video i captured: (my son is about 5 minutes old here)

So the ‘creative thing’ i do with my S60 device is making videos of my son!

    Cheers,
    Joffrey

Ps. If my son would have been born 1 month later it would propably have been captured with a N95 :-)

  11. Ah man, I hate it! I had a cute idea (I think): juggling with 2 phones (nokia 3250 and nokia 6610), that’s not the best part: while juggling, I had to type a msg saying “hi guru”, I did it, it worked out but shooting it with my Kodak, the msg on the screen didn’t show up clearly so you could’ve looked at it and said “well, these may be any words”… Sooooo bad, plus I have been rehearsing it for 2 weeks! *starts banging my head against the wall*

  12. thanks.

  13. here is my video

  17. Ok, this is literally LAST MINUTE. I’m still transcoding a video, dammit. But here’s the story:

I have a youtube clip of me playing an Evanescence song here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ydQs6DE7mQ

Someone left a comment for me to make a new video with the “camera behind me”, I guess so that they can see my fingers on the keyboard - to help them learn the piece…

Thus what I do with my S60 device? Piano instruction!
