Update: Mobile Videocasting

I know I just posted the rant, but I have 2 updates on this. As you recall, I’m having issues uploading directly from my Nokia N95 to blip.tv, my online video site of choice. I chose Blip.tv because I like the quality output I get better than YouTube. Plus I’ve just never been a YouTube fan.

So the 2 updates are this: First, Stefan found a java app (you know how I feel about java apps on S60) called MobyExplorer that he used to upload a few videos. It’s $15, but if it works, I may have to give it a go. MobyExplorer enables FTP on a mobile device, using Blip.tv’s FTP upload service. I honestly hadn’t tried that, but will be giving it a shot later this evening.

The other update is that I received some information from Angus with Blip.tv. First off, I want to say that it infinitely encourages me and makes me want to use someone’s service MORE when you can shoot off an email chock full of feedback and within a few hours get one back acknowledging and asking more questions. This is what I got from Angus, so props from the beginning for communication. Definitely a HUGE plus. Second, I found out that they’ve got 2 options that they’re working on. The first is a mobile-oriented upload site, basically a very very simple upload form, specially formatted to use with a mobile device. This is good, and probably the easiest solution.

The other option is building a downloadable configuration file similar to Vox to be able to upload my video straight to Blip.tv through the built-in web upload feature on N-series devices. KILLER. I wasn’t able to get a timeline, but I know that they’re in the process of rolling out other cool features, and I’m excited to see what Angus and the rest have up their sleeves. Stayed tuned for that, and look for the Driving With The Guru episodes to get a little fancier in the future.
