Mobile Blogging with the N95 and SU-8W

I’m typing this out on my N95 with the SU-8W BT keyboard. This truly is a mobile blogging solution. I was able to snap the pic with my N95 and then use Lifeblog to post it to the web.

The BT keyboard is a bit cramped. It is smaller than a regular keyboard when unfolded, and it is a bit uncomfortable to type on for extended periods of time. However, for punching out a quick blog post or surfing the web, it’s more than efficient.

Another part of the keyboard that struck me as odd is the fact that it
uses 2 AAA batteries. The ones that come included are not rechargable,
and there is no plug for the keyboard. I would hope that the next
version would switch to a battery pack, and be able to plug in with the
standard Nokia charger. Also, I was talking with KrazyKritter at the
airport and we decided it would be even better if not only could you
plug the keyboard into the wall, but also if you could plug your phone
into the keyboard, thereby recharging the phone at the same time you’re
using the keyboard.

The shortcuts on the keyboard are really convenient. I am able to do
anything on the phone entirely from the keyboard. However, when
I paired it with the N800, I was unable to do simple navigation.
Granted, I might need some tweaking, but I would think, both being
Nokia, that it would integrate a bit better than it did.

One thing I found as I tried to do this offline blogging thing is that Lifeblog doesn’t allow you to save a post without posting it to the web. Kinda useless, so I had to type all my stuff out in the Notes app for the time being. Not a huge deal, I’ll probably get a copy of QuickOffice or Office Suite pretty soon if I’m going to be doing more of this.

If you have any questions or things you’d like me to try with the keyboard, please leave them in the comments.

Can you pair the keyboard with two phones and easily connect it to both? I just ordered one and want to use it with my N80 and N800 tablet. My last keyboard did not have this feature and I had to do a bluetooth pairing each time.

Whe using with your N800, did you tell the N800 it’s a Nokia SU8W or a standard PC101 key keyboard? That may be the cause of issues…

@David – you can use it on both. When you turn the keyboard on, it will try to connect to the last connected device. If it doesn’t find that, then it goes to the next recent device, and so on, through 5, if that makes sense. So you’ll have to turn bt off on whatever device when you first power it on, if you’ve got both nearby.

@Bryan – I don’t know, I just paired and went. I’ll look into the settings this evening and see if there’s something to change. Thanks for the headsup.
