New Podcasting App Coming Soon?
Darla Mack’s got the scoop in the form of 2 screenshots of a new version of the Nokia Podcasting App and Nseries Music Player. I’m an avid user of the Podcasting app to listen to Engadget, KenRadio, the Smartphones Show, and Voice of S60. However, one thing I’ve always been missing since I stopped using my iPod for podcasts is bookmarking. Bookmarking in a podcast allows the author to set little "chapter" marks for you to skip through, but also remembers where you stopped listening if you quit listening in the middle. VERY useful for longer podcasts such as the Engadget and KenRadio ones.
Also, Darla reports that the updated version of the Nseries Music Player will separate out Podcasts from the rest of your music collection automatically. This is really cool, as I hate hand-picking all my podcasts out, but also hate to get them stuck in the middle of a mass shuffle.
What else would I request? One-click command to update all podcasts, rather than options-mark-mark all-options-update. Automatically setting podcasts as old after a certain period of time. For the Music Player to also be able to filter out tracks shorter than a user-defined length (so that mp3 ringtones aren’t included) or being able to specify which folders are "watched." I’d also like to see a few more visualizations.
What about you? What things would you like to see changed in the Nokia Podcasting App or the Nseries Music Player?
Bookmarking, bookmarking, bookmarking. I would also like to hear snippets of audio as I fast forward through commercials like on the Ipod. I agree with a reduction of steps to complete a task that is currently multiple steps. Next is the 3.5MM jack on all phones so that I can play podcasts/music over my car speakers. Finally, the biggest thing by far however, is US 3G SUPPORT for faster downloads of course.
For easier updating of all, hit the * key to mark all, then the select key and choose update…
@Bryan: Thanks for the tip! Actually, I didn’t even realize that you could use the marking functionality to update multiple podcasts in the first place. I blame my 2-week newbie status to the N95.
I have 3 hopes:
1. BOOKMARKING SUPPORT (or at least “remember playback positition”)
2. That it will be available as download for my N95
3. That is will be released SOON !!!
Since I’m in Europe I already have 3G support (even HSDPA though at present I can’t use that and the phone service at the same time) so I just need bookmark support to ditch my iPod completely for podcast listening.
Please don’t make it N-series exclusive - us poor sods stuck with the E-series phones enjoy podcasts as much as our richer N-series cousins.
I think if you put your ringtones in “Sound clips\Ringtones” folder, it will be skipped by Music Player’s scan for new songs. - mike
