The new Ngage Platform is only a few months away, and I had an epiphany yesterday regarding mobile gaming. I hate sports video games. Passionately. Mostly cause I’m not a “sports” guy, but also because the typical team sports, such as football, basketball, etc, I can’t keep up with that many players in a video game. I’m always stuck on the guy in the wrong end of the court/field, and miss all the action. That being said, I LOVE TIGER WOODS GOLF. On any platform – Playstation, Xbox 360, you name it, I love it. It’s relaxing, I’m good at it (contrary to real golf), and you can create your own character.
Last night I was playing on my roommate’s Xbox 360 Tiger Woods ’07, and I had recently found Tiger Woods ’07 for mobile phones. I haven’t played the mobile version (stupid EA Sports doesn’t let you download for unbranded handsets), but I had an intriguing idea.
Why not connect them all? What if I could upload my custom character to
EA Sports’ servers, and be able to play with her on any platform (yes,
of course I create a chick, what guy doesn’t?)? How COOL would that be?
Let me set this up. You get your Xbox 360, and spend an hour or so
setting up your character. Now you’re supposed to play round after
round of golf, and build up her stats and earn money and whatnot.
The problem is, that requires me spending hours upon hours on the couch
in front of my TV. I”m a mobile guy, obviously. I also have friends.
What can’t I go to my buddy’s house, fire up his PS3 with Tiger Woods
’07, dial in to EA Sports’ server, and pull up my lady? Even better, on
my mobile. I could get a few holes in here and there throughout the
day. It would have to be hosted by the game manufacturer, as the
console players obviously aren’t fans of cross-platform friendliness,
but I don’t see the holdup on this.
I wonder if there’s any plans to incorporate something like this for
the new Ngage Platform? It would prompt me to play that specific game
more (or even buy it, if I had just bought the platform-version) which
would make the game developer more money. It would involve me more with
whatever console I choose, and it would encourage me to build the
community, from wherever I was.
Don’t you think this would be a killer app for the new Ngage Platform?
What do you think needs to happen to make it happen? Anyone from Ngage
wanna comment (publicly or privately?)
