TibiaME - First Mobile MMORPG

Welcome_en
When I read this headline over at AllAboutSymbian, I could have sworn that I’d written about TibiaME before. I’ve played it before, and somewhere amongst the phone swapping, it got dropped from my usual installation "package". I’m not going to even attempt to write a review, because Krisse at AllAboutSymbian covered dang near every single aspect of it, short of attaching a video showing actual gameplay.

If you’re a mobile gamer, I’d highly suggest checking this one out (be aware that it uses your phone’s data connection to play, so make sure you’re using WiFi or have an unlimited data plan). It’s fun, it’s addicting, and there’s PLENTY to explore. Apparently they’ve released a new S60v3 client (I guess the last time I played was on my 6682) but Krisse points out that they haven’t updated enough to take advantage of the new screen resolution.

I think we’ll start to see more of this, particularly with the new Ngage platform. It’s one more step closer my dream of carrying the same mobile game across several platforms, so that you can play however you want. There’s a full blown version, called just plain Tibia, that’s apparently a ton of fun. The two aren’t connected - yet. I don’t see why they wouldn’t connect the two eventually.

What do you think? Have you played TibiaME? Why not? Do you think something like this could be successful? Would you like to organize an in-game meeting and play a round or something?

  1. Great game :) No one ever mentions this game, so I’m glad to see it getting press over the last few days. It is the most enjoyable mobile game I’ve ever played. And, it might be the most immersive, addictive game I’ve ever played regardless of platform… Just ask my girlfriend :)
But, there is a problem that has completely halted my play. Namely, the s60 3rd edition game client. On my N70 it was awesome, and importantly, FULL SCREEN… On my n95 it only takes up a small portion of the screen. This is mentioned by both you and Krisse, and is the SINGLE reason I no longer play. I can’t stand crappy/incomplete software on my phone, and TibiaME is no exception. I won’t be upgrading my old character (phonophile, world 13, lvl 24), or starting a new one, until they make it look better on the newer 320×240 phones.

Which is too damned bad, because seriously, you can loose yourself for HOURS in this game… Just talking smack and killing newbs in the ring are enough to keep you entertained :)
Anyways, here’s to hoping they update 1.45 soon, cause I can’t wait to get back into it, and I really can’t wait to get it on the TV. I’ve been dreaming of that day since before I got the n95.

    Regards,
    Phono

  2. “short of attaching a video showing actual gameplay.”

Actually… I did! I put a link at the end of the review to a gameplay video I’d posted on my gaming blog:

    http://nokiagaming.blogspot.com/2007/07/tibiame-for-s60-3rd-edition-video.html

Phono, after publishing the review I got a mail from Cipsoft (the Tibia ME developers) saying that they would discuss all of the problems I raised in the review at their next development meeting. They also said that they are working on a high resolution client for QVGA phones, as well as an upgrade of the existing 176×208 client.

  3. Its already 1.52 or something like that. And tell TibiaME to partner up with T-Mobile USA so us T-Mobile users can play this game.
