Black Nokia N95 8GB Pops Out of the FCC

Nokian958gb There’s yet another version of the N95, this time hanging onto the Euro 3G but adding an 8GB hard drive and getting a dark makeover. From the pic, you can see it looks like they kept the redesigned back from the US 3G version, as well as the new battery. No word from the FCC on the upped RAM, but I’m sure it’s in there as well. This time they also shrunk the D-pad and surrounding keys and increased the screen size.

Personally, I think all these versions of the same phone (that’s 3, now) is stupid. Yeah, they’re well-needed enhancements, but can you imagine how confusing it is to us enthusiasts, much less regular consumers? Who’s the person who thought it would be a great idea to have three vastly different devices all named simply "N95"? Seriously? That’s a marketing NIGHTMARE.

What do you think? I’m glad that they’ve fixed several things like the RAM and battery life, but they should have named them differently, at the least. Granted, they’re not officially announced yet, either, so let’s hope Nokia’s reading and simplifies things for us a bit.

  1. ahha yeah. Why don’t they call this version N95i ?

  2. Nah, I really don’t think it is a marketing nightmare. There will be the original N95 + the 8GB version in Europe. Not too difficult to differentiate.

In the US you will basically have, for the time being the US version, and maybe the 8GB gets imported as well. Again, not very confusing to me.

  3. As far as I understand, this phone won’t have a slot for a microSD card. It’s not that it needed it anyway, but it’s strange nontheless.

And about the name. We’ll call it the N95 8gb or N95i. It’s never been a problem before, so it won’t be now aswell.

  4. At least some differentiator on the n95 to let you know what model it is…
    n95 for the original
    n95na for north american 3g
n95(iphone edition) for the 8 gig
just kidding on that last one…
all ipods are ipods, but they have differentiating model names

  5. i wonder how maplader will load maps as you cant use internal memory?

  6. If only they could stop faffing with the look on the outside, and get the software to be less flakey and that bit smoother in operation (ie. smoothly changing display direction, being generally quicker and more responsive)

But then, I have to admit it looks pretty slick in black, and who can deny that 8gig hard drive is a lovely added bonus!

  7. I COMPLETELY agree. It’s silly to have so many versions of the N95. Makes no sense to me. Save the features for a new model, or name the new N95’s something that at least helps to differentiate them. I believe it will cause confusion. There will definitely be confusion on the N95 forum.

Releasing upgraded models of the same device I just paid $700 for less than six months ago just makes me feel beta tested somehow.

  8. One important thing though. Is that 8GB of memory a hard disk or flash memory? If it were a hard disk its gonna suck.

  9. Yeah A Hard Disk ‘ll Suck Hard!

buh its 8gb n real tempting!

the ORIGINAL N95 was a total disaster!
i bought it soon after release here in kuwait jus to be really disappointed!

so m seriouslly considerin buyin aother version wid a huge battery n mo memory n i relaly cld do wid the increase in the RAM!

lets face it the fone really is a good piece its got errythin!(i mean wht next?:S)

  10. i dont think ap loader will be a problem i think i read thad the N95 8gb dont have the gps chip. was removed to make room for extra memory
