Call me lame, but oftentimes throughout the day I think of something I want to write a post about. Used to, I would just sit down and write the post, but I soon found that was not the best thing for my day job, so I’ve started recording them somehow so that I could remember later what I wanted to post about. I’ve been looking for a few different ways to do this, and when I got the E65 with its voice recorder button on the side, I thought this would be awesome.
It’s not. The big problem with the voice recorder on S60 devices is that once you’ve recorded them, they just get lost in this multimedia black hole. When I connect with PC Suite, they’re left behind. The pics and videos get uploaded with the Image Store function (which I love, btw) and all my contacts/calendar/etc. get synced with Outlook, but these poor little voice recordings just sit there.
Here’s my request (and yes, I’m going to put this on the Feature
Wishlist on S60.com): Add a part of PC Suite that asks if I want to
listen to my voice recordings when I sync my phone. Just a quick little
popup, maybe even a chime-sound to go with it, that says, "You have X
new voice memos, would you like to listen to them now?" with a yes or
no or reschedule in XX minutes.
I can’t describe how convenient this would be. Think about it. The
whole reason you use the voice memo recorder is so that you don’t
forget something. I’ve tried using Jott, but it doesn’t always
transcribe correctly, and I have to talk slow and deliberately. Plus, I
get the notifications pretty immediately. I don’t need them that quick,
I need them when I get back to my computer.
Another handy feature (which should be built into the phone) is one
where you could set a specific time of the day for this same scenario
to happen on your phone. Just like a calendar notification, and just
like the one on your PC Suite, this would popup say, every weekday
morning at 8:30am and say "You have XX new voice memos, play them now?"
This way, they stay relevant, you stay reminded of them, and this app
finally gets some usage from most users. Does anyone else think this
would be a really killer implementation?
