You didn’t think I’d sit here and praise EVERYTHING Nokia did yesterday, did you? Of course not. So my big question is, how come everyone’s calling it a "launch"? To the best of my knowledge, I’m not able to purchase or use ANYTHING that was revealed in London on the 29th. The Music Store, Music Player, Ngage Platform, N81, N95 8GB, and those S40 devices, nothing’s available, or will be for another month at least.
So then was it an announcement or a launch?
I’d say it was an announcement. A VERY lavish announcement. But not a
launch. I realize that companies have to time things like this
strategically, but it’s very anti-climactic to attend something like
that, with all this cool stuff, and not be able to use/get any of it.
I’d LOVE to be sitting here exploring Ovi, previewing trials of Ngage
games, and importing my music library into the new Nokia Music Player,
but I’m unable.
One thing that….er….the competition in the music arena…does right
is product announcements/launches. The best words that anyone can ever
say in a promotional event, in my opinion, is "And this is available
right now." It keeps the hype going. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really
really excited for all of the stuff that was announced, but what’s
going to happen when it’s actually launched? Another big event?
It just seems a bit silly to me, that’s all. Oh, and did I mention yet
that the music store will be a regional launch? What’s that mean? It
means the US is going to get the shaft. Again. It’s ok, we’re used to
it. So is Apple, Nokia. So is Apple.
