Nokia MD-6 Portable Speakers
Here’s a quick little video of the Nokia MD-6 Portable speaker set that we received in our goody bags at the Nokia: Go Play event in London a few weeks ago. They’re a great little set of speakers, with a place to wind the input cord built-in.
They use 4 AAA batteries, which I would personally rather see a rechargable battery pack, but such is life. Someday Nokia will just use battery packs for EVERYTHING and it’ll be greatness.
Anyways, as you can hear in the video, the sound is nice and rich, and a bit better quality than using the built-in loudspeaker on the Nokia N95. The official Nokia page says that there’s an FM radio somewhere, but I haven’t a clue where that might be on these little things.
When I plugged the speakers into my laptop and tried to play some Chemical Brothers (very high bass levels) the sound was horrendous. However, as you can see in the video, they sound fine with regular music.
Pricing and availability, as usual for a Nokia accessory, is unavailable.

hi, thanks for posting the video on the speakers. i am a little confused though. first you say that the wired speakers dont have as much bass as the n95 built in speakers, then you say the wired speakers bass is out of control (chemical brothers song). can you please clarify for me? is it worth buying, if reasonably priced? thanks again
Ricky for the built-in fm, i’m just speculating here, but i might be right.
You know how Nokia phones are said to have built-in fm, but the fm doesn’t work unless u plug in the earphone since the antenna is said to be located in the earphone’s wire (the part that plugs in your phone)… well i guess these speakers don’t have an fm built in, meaning you could hear fm without the phone being connected to them, but that their wire includes the fm antenna that is needed to start off your fm radio on the phone.
i don’t know if that’s clear, but think about it, when you click on radio on your phone, it says sthg like please connect your headphone/earphone. now image u have the n95, how would you plug-in the headphone AND the speaker in order to listen to the fm loudly? u can’t because there’s only one 3.5mm outlet. Hence these speakers have the built-in antenna, so you could use them on their own.
Hope now it makes more sense, well it does to me, and i’m just saying i’m speculating here, but do let me know if you think this is right
just 2 slight correction “meaning you couldN’T hear fm without the phone being connected”, and “now imagINe you have the n95″….
i’m not good at typing fast!
that’s probably exactly right, Rita! Thanks!
You’re welcome
It’s good that nokia uses AAA bateries because we can buy rechargable(ni-Mh) AAA and use it for some years=]
Can anyony tell me the cost (in CDN $$) and if they’re even available in Canada??
If so, any idea where I can get them? Tried Best Buy and they don’t carry any battery powered speakers.
Thanks to whoever replies.
