Nokia N81 passes FCC, Caught In Production?

N81_01
The Nokia N81 has made it through the FCC testing gauntlet, which means it’s officially OK to sell in the States. At the press event, Nokia stated a planned launch in Q4 2007, which is from October-December. However, there’ve been rumors that it’s having trouble passing Nokia’s production quality control, due to issues with the antenna placement.

You’d think with as long as Nokia has been making "multimedia computers," that they’d know where they can and cannot put the antenna. Hopefully the rumors are false, and there aren’t any issues at all. They’ve got a 3-month window to start shipping devices, and if they don’t hit before Christmas, Nokia’s going to have a bigger problem selling this particular handset, in my opinion.

  1. Nokia certainly has had the antenna at the bottom of e.g. 6126/6131, most likely in 6555, the N76 and probably others. Not sure if they’ve had it there in a slider phone before though. I am SURE the problem can and is being solved (IF there is one). There is no way they would have let the device go this far otherwise.

Perhaps it gives problems to those retards who keep moving the phone between their ear and the mouth as if the phone would not otherwise pick their speech.. lol.. I am sure you’ve all seen those folks.

  2. Well this is a VIP (very important phone) for Nokia right?

It’s the phone that sets the beggining on the new ngage concept. And if it slips for 2008, all the xmas sales will be lost.
After that what will happen? N81 getting poor sales due to the N82′ etc that should be announced in November to be released Q1 ‘08? Or will this be delayed and allow the competition to announce new products?..

    We will see….

  3. In 2008 I personally do not see 2mp camera phones selling! In the premium segment at least!
