Quake running on my N95
A few days ago I saw over at Apoc’s blog that someone had gotten Quake running on their N95. I’ve heard of Doom being playable, but never really cared to go through the incessant hoops to get it running. However, I decided to give it a go with Quake, and I’m pleased to say that it runs smoothly and really isn’t that difficult to install.
You’ll need a copy of the data files. I seem to have….misplaced….mine, so you’ll have to find your own. If you’ve got a copy of the game from way back when, you should be good to go. There’s also shareware versions floating about, apparently. Also note that this currently ONLY WORKS ON FEATURE PACK 1 DEVICES.
UPDATE: The power just went out in our building for an hour or so and I was able to spend some quality time with Quake. The button keymapping doesn’t work real well on the phone’s keypad (it tries to assign the number keys to a regular keyboard key like CTRL or Shift), but I was able to get jump assigned to the 0 key, which helped gameplay alot.
Also, I can confirm that saving and loading the game works well. There’s quite a bit of delay when you’ve saved where you may think the game froze, but give it a few minutes and you’re golden. This is AWESOME as I’m able to pick up where I left off. Game on.
Here’s the vid, and be sure to click through to Symbian-Freak.com to get the step-by-step and files needed. I for one am REALLY hoping for a cool First-person shooter like this for the Ngage. How freakin cool would it be to play online multiplayer Goldeneye on your Nokia?!

eish.. how i wish i can play this on the n93.. =\
do you have sound in this game??
Yes, it has sound and if you ripp the CD-Tracks to mp3 you even have the background music.
But it also hase some bus: I can’t load a saved game and slider-options like voume can only be set to min or max.
But apart from that: Absolutely great game (No Wonder, it’s Quake!)
What do I need to have Quake on my own N95 ? And where do I can get it ?
You have to get a copy of the Original PC-Quake (Full or Shareware).
Then head over to http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/index.html and follow the instuctions.
Hello Ricky, on womworld.com I came across a post with a video of you (it says it’s you) playing Quake on your N95 (w. TV-out) using a SU-8W keyboard.
I have a setup similar to yours in the video: N95 w. TV-out + SU-8W. I am experiencing a curious problem that I hope you can help me either solve or at least throw some light upon.
When playing using the SU-8W keyboard is seems as if the controls “freeze” when a lot of action takes place (eg. when being attacked by several rottweilers and baddies at once). By “freezing” I mean that my “character” suddenly keeps going forward/backwards - or keeps turning - and does not respond to other input. As if one of the arrow keys is stuck, except that no key is in fact stuck. Once the heavy action is over (if I survive), the controls becomes responsive again.
What gives - have you experienced this?
The problem does not occur if I play on the N95 alone - without the SU-8W and regardless of TV-out or not.
I have this problem on both previous (v12.0.013) and current (v20.0.015) firmware - despite Demand Paging and all…
Hope you can throw some light on this!
Cheers Chris

[...] ladies and gentlemen. You can now play Quake II or Wolfenstein 3D on your S60v3, in addition to the original Quake, as we’ve reported before. Both games require that you have the original data files, so [...]
