SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian S60v3 Devices!

Slingplayersymbian
As of today, the SlingPlayer Mobile application has been freed from the confines of its European overlords at 3. I’ve had the pleasure of toying with the Slingplayer for Symbian application over the past few weeks, and I have to say, it’s a phenomenal addition to my N95. If you’re not familiar with the SlingBox, it is a little box that plugs into your TV and cable box, and it basically broadcasts your TV signal over the internet. Using the Slingplayer application on your computer, or now on your Symbian S60v3 device, you can tune into your own TV at home from anywhere you have an internet connection!

The Slingplayer for Symbian application is available for the N95, E65, and N75 here in the States. It’s best used over a 3G or WiFi connection, but if you don’t mind a bit of stuttering, then an EDGE connection will work as well. With the SlingPlayer, you’re able to completely control your TV from any internet connection. This includes Video OnDemand and DVR recordings.

Who would use this? Well, first and foremost, any TV junky. Your TV is
now freed from your home. You can take your mobile phone and be
anywhere in the world (with an internet connection) and still watch
your TV shows! Sitting in the airport waiting for your flight, you’re
covered. Also, sports maniacs are now covered, as well. You can now
watch your local sports games from anywhere in the world. Business trip
to China? No problem. As you can see in the following video, using the
video-out feature of the Nokia N95, you can watch your local sports on
the TV in your hotel room, no matter what country you’re in!

The Slingplayer for Symbian is now available to download for the N95,
E65, and N75 here in the US for $30. There is a rumor that Nokia and
SlingMedia are working together to offer the application for free to
owners of the US 3G N95. I will most certainly let you know when I hear
if that’s final.
It’s final. The Slingplayer app has been loaded into the Download! App for the Nokia N95-3.

    Awesome.. two questions

    1) how is the picture quality in the full screen mode?

    2) if you have Slingbox at home, and take control of your cable box remotely, does the channel change for the folks watching TV at home at the same time? My cable box sometimes says “switch to other tuner” so perhaps one can watch one channel remotely and another at home at the same time?

Strange there is no E61 client (rather, not strange in Nokialand) so I asked the Sling Media people at the LA Nseries event. They haven’t (yet) updated the Slingplayer software to use the screen orientation/resolution of the E61 since it’s different than the other devices.

Seems odd not to include a native 4:3 aspect ratio from the start but what do I know.

Can anyone confirm that the player supports full screen in landscape mode?

When i looked at it on 3 a few months ago it only worked in portrait mode.
