Breaking News: Jaiku is acquired by Google!

Jaiku_s603rded
What an interesting morning this has been for me! First my internet goes down, then comes back up, Gtalk goes down, then Jaiku, and now Gtalk is back up (on my N800, at least) and Jaiku has announced that they’ve been acquired by Google!! This is stinkin cool!

You can read the full Q&A regarding the acquisition here, and more news will be coming soon, I’m sure. As is the typical case with Google and new acquisitions, registration for Jaiku is currently temporarily closed. You can request an invite, and will be notified via email if you get one.

I’ve been using Jaiku off and on for several months now, and really enjoy the community over there. A HUGE congratulations to Jyri and Petteri!

  • Oooo, this is interesting - I hope they don't change the name! (^_^)
  • @James: You don't think Jaikoogle sounds cool? :)

Wow.. pity Nokia did not get them first.
  • I don't think it really matters if Nokia bought them or not - there's an S60 client available already - and Nokia has other work to do here in the States. Let's see how Ovi goes over before we start wishing Nokia got into other mobile services.

Since Google is now (we hope) obligated to develop for Symbian, I want to see an S60 client for GrandCentral's Inbox - visual voicemail in a native UI instead of WAP.
