Daily Principles Blog Meme

Olly tagged me with this like, a week ago, and it’s been a while since I’ve done one, so I figured I’d do this one. A meme is usually something completely random, designed to introduce the participant’s personal side a little bit more. According to Wikipedia, it loosely means a unit of cultural transmission. If you don’t like it, scroll through or read my next post.

If you DO want to know, then click through. For those interested, this meme is about Daily Principles. Basically, things that direct your daily life. So here’s mine…….

These aren’t all of them, I’ve limited myself to 5 (nor are they in any significant order):

1. Live life to tell great stories - This is something that a coworker at a camp that I worked at told me, and something that I’ve tried to live by ever since. In essence, whatever you do, do it so that it’s exciting enough to be passed on via story. Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of history, and one of the most important, in my opinion. My favorite things to do are sit around with friends and reminisce on old stories. One of the things that I look forward the most about having kids and grandkids is being able to sit in my rocker with my corncob pipe and tell them stories. Thus, I have to live to create them. No one likes someone who makes up stories that aren’t true. That person is a liar.

2. Anything that you’re stressed out, ask yourself 2 questions: A. In the course of a lifetime, what does it matter? and B. Is there anything that I can do to change this? If the answer to both is nothing, then move on. You’re only wasting your time. If there is an answer to the second question, then quit complaining and go do whatever it is that you can.

3. It could always be worse. No matter what is happening to you at the moment, there’s always *someone* out there who has it worse. Always. So when you’re having a little pity-party for yourself, just think of something that would be worse, and remind yourself that’s happening to someone else right now. Sure makes your life seem a little brighter, doesn’t it?

4. I always have fun. This is a law in my life. I find that it also rubs off on others, as well. Regardless of what’s happening, or what’s just happened, or where you’re at, there’s absolutely no reason you can’t have at least a little bit of fun. I know what you’re thinking. “What if someone just died?” I ask you, do you really think that person would want you to be moping around all the time? No. And if any of you mope too long when I die, I’ll haunt you, I promise. Life is for living. You only get one life, and so just cause mine’s over, doesn’t mean yours is, too. Go live it.

5. The Golden Rule - do unto others. I know, it’s cliche, but it’s the simplest way to have an impact on someone else’s life. Cause that’s really what it’s all about. I mean, I could have a killer blog with tons of readers, or be the head of my company, but if I didn’t affect someone’s life for the better, then who am I kidding? When I die, someone else will write for S-G (or worse, it’ll just fade away), or they’ll put someone else the head of the company. However, even the people who’s names you don’t know, but who touched your life in some way, you’ll always remember them. All of the above rules really funnel into this one, I think.
