S60 vs. WinMo: Initial Post

One of the major benefits of my new job as News Editor at MobileBurn.com is that I will also have the opportunity to test and review different devices. Even greater is that these will not always be S60 or even Nokia devices. Currently, I have a Moto Q9m on Verizon’s network that I am testing out. The full on review will be available on MobileBurn.com in a few days, but in the meantime, I’ll also be posting thoughts here on Symbian-Guru as to how the different phone OS options compare to S60. Hopefully, these posts will allow you to see why I choose S60 as my OS of choice, and whether it will be the saame for you.

Yes, I realize that I also run the risk of allowing myself to be converted to another OS, and thus alienate myself from my own blog, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. One of the things you learn getting a degree in marketing is to know your competition better than they know themselves. Nokia listens to me and other bloggers because we’re not afraid to give them dead honest feedback on their devices and services. How much more useful and valuable is that feedback if I can also give them an idea of how thew competition is doing in a certain area?

I haven’t decided exactly what areas I will be comparing, but they will have a more consumer/multimedia slant as opposed to business usage. My friend Phoneboy has recently completed a very fascinating series comparing the more business side of WinMo vs S60, you can check it out here on his blog.

**Update** I posted this using the Typepad client on the Q itself. Apart from a few typos, it turned out pretty good. I’m really jazzed that I was able to put in the Phoneboy link directly on the device. Apparently, the Typepad client for mobiles accepts HTML, which is nice.

  1. Ricky:

Thanks for the link love. Here’s the “final” article I wrote, which links to all the previous ones. Might want to link to that article instead of just my general site.
