Samsung SGH-i550 S60 with GPS
My boss, Michael Oryl over at Mobileburn.com has been spending some time at the Samsung HQ in Seoul, Korea, and had an opportunity for an intense little hands-on with the SGH-i550, Samsung’s upcoming S60 device with GPS built-in. AllAboutSymbian previously checked this phone out at IFA in September, and thought it looked mighty fine.
It’s a pretty solidly featured device, with S60v3 FP1, built-in GPS, 3.2MP shooter with autofocus, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. Unfortunately, it’s only a triband GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) device, with 3G on the European 2100MHz frequency. It’s also got a 3.5mm audio jack, 2.6" QVGA screen and microSD card slot with SDHC support. It’s a little bit taller than the N95 but not quite as fat, and sports the same 1200mAh battery as the newer N95s.
The i550 sports some S60 firsts, though, including a trackball replacing the d-pad, ala Blackberry Pearl, as well as a micro-USB port that also charges the phone. RAM is 128MB, similar to the newer N95 models.
No clue on the RAM, but I will say that I’m really hoping that I get a chance to put this one through the ringer. Nokia pretty much owns the S60 interface, but Samsung, LG, and Lenovo apparently license it, as well, and I’d REALLY love to see how other manufacturers handle S60. Pricing and availability, as usual, is not quite available, though there’s a 400 EUR (US $569) rumor floating around.

About a year or so ago I played with a Samsung slider at the Samsung Store in NYC. I can’t recall the Samsung product number but it was running Symbian S60 and was a really nice device.
