I’m Back In Love With ShoZu
I know I go back and forth, but I LOVE the idea of ShoZu, it is EXACTLY what I want for my media in this uber-connected world. For those that don’t know, ShoZu lets you upload your pictures and videos to dern near anywhere on the internet, directly from your handset. The best part? You can set it to AUTOMATICALLY do this. Yeah, that’s why I love it so much. I was at my sister’s all day Thanksgiving snapping pics with the N82 of the family and all. The best part is that when I get home from my festivities, I don’t have to sit down at the computer and upload all my photos. They’re already online.
ShoZu is an app that accomplishes what I firmly believe technology is for - to enrich and enable our real lives. WHEN IT WORKS, it does this beautifully. Since I’m putting my photos on Flickr, I can even interact with others through ShoZu by seeing when comments are added to my pics, and I can even post a comment! Love it.
So why on earth would I not have been in love with ShoZu before? Cause it still sucks on my N95. It’s unbelievably frustrating to me. It also doesn’t like videos, for some stupid reason. The biggest video file I can upload with ShoZu is 10MB. Do you realize how short of a video 10MB is on a phone like the N82? Just to give an idea, I took a 54 second video earlier today, it’s 17MB. So, yeah. But it works wonderfully on the Nokia N82, and frankly, in my book, that’s actually another reason to get this phone. Just cause ShoZu works.
I’ve got more to come on the Nokia N82 review soon, but I wanted to share that with you. My Flickr photos are here, if you want to check them out for some comparison shots, and to see the quality of the N82. I didn’t mess with any settings, I always take pics with the automatic settings. Beautiful.

Hiya Ricky,
Glad to hear about your experience with ShoZu on the N82
Such an awesome device, it’s amazing how overlooked the power of a good flash can be. It totally transforms the images from this phone.
It’s a shame you were one of the few who had trouble with the original N95, but it is actually our number 1 S60 device in regards to user numbers. Sorry you couldn’t really join in! I know you love the auto-upload feature but you could always use our new MMS/email gateway if you don’t mind a few extra clicks. You won’t need the client installed, just add your email or phone number on the ShoZu site and it’ll use all your current settings. More info here:

The newer versions like N95 US and N95 8GB (and N82 of course) are pretty flawless with third party apps thanks to double the RAM.
In regards to the 10MB limit, well we have to keep that in place on the free service to keep our commercial paying customers happy so their service is always running smoothly. The bigger problem you’d have with uploading huge clips is actually flattening the battery with all that data transfer. But now that we’ve raised it from 4MB to 10MB we are definitely looking to the future and hoping to do something similar again further down the line.
Look forward to your full N82 review
Best,
Jambo (ShoZu)
I’ve installed and uninstalled Shozu three times before on the N95 (classic), because, well, I had the same gripes about it as you’ve been talking about.
Just once again installed the same app which for all sakes and purposes practically crippled my phone. Now, IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! Just as it’s intended.
What’s changed? Thank you Nokia for giving us the love of Demand Paging on the N95!
