Nokia N82 is Official - Q&A Recap

n82_Sg
It’s Wednesday morning, and what’s new? The Nokia N82 is official, finally. The specs are the same as what was leaked back in May, though the battery life is slightly worse, and it dropped from 120g to 114g, not entirely a bad thing.

Pricing is confirmed in the press release at 450EUR ($656 USD), which is REALLY good, considering the features. If I was able to get one with US 3G, I’d most definitely go for the N82 over the N95-3.

The Xenon flash is a big step forward, and thankfully the device seems to have plenty of RAM for different applications. James Burland over at Nokiacreative.com already has his hands on one and is putting the camera through its paces.

Chatting with one of the Product Managers, I was able to get some questions answered **Keep refreshing this page, I will be updating as we chat**:

1. Are other colors planned? Yes, in Q1 2008

2. Stefan, how is the build quality? Best Nseries device thus far

3. Can you confirm the Naviwheel? The N82 does not have the naviwheel

4. The N82 uses an accelerometer to auto-rotate the screen, but can the user disable this? Yes, there is a menu option to turn it off. However, there is not currently an option to assign the function to a hotkey

5. Tell us about the microUSB port? Charging is not supported, though Nokia has accessories that allow it. Also, the data transfer speed is still slow.

6. How fast to get a GPS lock? Under 3 seconds thanks to A-GPS

7. Does the video recording have autofocus? At the start of the recording, it will autofocus, but once you begin recording, it’s fixed.

8. Does the N82 have Infrared? Nope. (That means no Psiloc IrRemote!)

9. Is Geotagging photos directly supported? Geotagging for the N82 will be available in Q1 2008 through Software Updater but available through 3rd party apps like ShoZu or LocR.

  1. doesn’t have a navi wheel? is that true?

  2. Build quality is okay, seems pretty solid. I’m not a big fan of the design however . . . apart from the lens cover, which is just about perfect. The flash is quite something! The video recorder does not have auto focus.

  3. I actually like the design; it’s the battery life that might turn me off. Oh, and congrats on one of your N82 links ranking highest on Google!

  4. Do you know where can I buy one?
    Europe? USA?

    Thanks!

  5. I’m just glad the 3.5mm jack is on top of the phone, for it makes it much easier to put in your pocket while listening to music. I’m anxious to see the build quality for myself, especially considering that it is a bar phone -

  6. Ricky…Two questions:

1: What is the explanation for the battery life? The only thing I can figure is that they’re also factoring in use of the more powerful flash. Thoughts?

2: From the images, the screen looks flush with the rest of the device. Is it? This would be awesome.

  7. The navi wheel not beeing present is a con factor.. why haven’t they included it? Can it be included with FW? Is the hardware there?

  8. An important question does the lightsabre app work with this phone?

  9. Will the N82’s GPS function work in the US? For free?

  10. what is 3a latency

  11. reduces camera respond time

  12. What I like about n82 is that it looks heavy. But it`s so light. It`s lighter than n70. or n95. It`s a fast sending phone. And the speakers are really good.

  13. if this phone had a naviwheel and an fm transmitter (that way, i could probably sell my iPod), i’d be sold, but now it seems better to wait for something better. i really like the N78, but that needs a 5MP camera. the N96 looks promising, but that’s still going to be a while… decisions, decisions.

  14. […] 21, 2008GPS Location Tagging Integrated into the Camera As many of you that attended the Q&A session during the N82 True Stories launch event probably remember, one of the questions asked was: […]
