I feel as though I owe my readers an explanation for the upcoming week. As you may have gathered, I’m redesigning the whole site, and moving to a hosted WordPress solution. There’s several reasons for this:
1. User Accounts – I have to pay extra for Typepad to allow me to have other authors, and they have to pay if they want more rights. With WordPress, I can easily add and remove users.
2. Better handling of old content – there’s a really easy way in WordPress to add a "related posts" block at the end of each post, which will help readers find other posts regarding the current topic. This should help Symbian-Guru be more than just a news feed, but hopefully a resource.
3. More flexible – there’s so many plugins that can add different functionality to the site, I think you guys will really enjoy it.
The overall layout and design is going to be focused on making it easier to look at, navigate, and interact with.
The goal is for you guys to not notice the transfer. However, I’m realizing it might not be nearly as easy as I was hoping. I will continue to run both the Typepad version and WordPress version in unison for a while, until I’m positive that the switch was clean.
In the meantime, please bear with me if there’s not many new posts this week, if the site goes down or looks REAL funky. The goal is to have it done by November 25th, which will be the 1 year anniversary of Symbian-Guru’s official launch.
