Beta Labs Runs Out MUPE

Nokia Beta Labs seems to be going at it in full speeds now and we sure are not going to complain. They just rolled out MUPE or Multi-User Publishing Environment:

Overview
MUPE is an emerging mobile playground to have fun with your friends. Just install the MUPE client to your phone, and start enjoying the growing collection of MUPE games and services, such as:

  • Piper: classic pipe puzzle game
  • Pocket Realms: multi-user strategy game
  • CamQ: multi-user camera quiz game
  • Press “Get More” button to see the complete list of available MUPE applications.

Note: all MUPE applications are online services and require an active data connection. Standard operator data charges apply.

Opportunities for developers: make your own MUPE application
Multi-User Publishing Environment (MUPE) is an open source application platform for mobile multi-user context-aware applications. MUPE allows anyone to easily create their own mobile services, games and applications - only server side programming is required. Learn more from
http://www.mupe.net.

Great to note are the community and multiplayer environments and the open source platform. While I reserve my judgement for later, it seems to me like this is a nice replacement of N-gage for S40 and other S60 devices who aren’t lucky to catch the N-gage fever. Plus it is not all about games but allows other applications too, as the mupe.net site claims. You can download MUPE from here and don’t forget to tell us what you think.

  1. Just played around a bit with it. well, it´s a nice idea for sure, but loading times (wlan connection, 6 mBit DSL) are too heavy. That should not mean that it is crap or something, but it needs much improvement. The games look like 1980´s as well. And they should make a chat app for it or something. it doesnt seem very “community” to me. Hope to read some other opinions here.
