One of my main complaints over the N82 (and the N73, previously) was that for an imaging device, it would not stand on its own, for taking timed pictures. To me, this seems like such a common sense function, and it has been overlooked. At Nokia World, I had the opportunity to question the N82 Product Managers about this, and was told that originally, the design was for it to be able to stand on its own. However, along the way, form gave way to function, and the sides were sloped to give a better in-hand feeling. I took the opportunity to suggest to them 2 solutions, one of which was some sort of pull-out stand, just a small piece of plastic which would offer some stability.
I totally did not think to actually try this out, and was schooled today when I just saw, via WOM World, that LonelyBob posted a video showing how you could use the memory card door as a small pull-out stand, enabling the N82 to stand on its own, horizontally, to take timed photos! Unfortunately, I don’t have my N73 handy to try it on that device, but any owners are encouraged to give it a go and leave a comment.
Great job, LonelyBob! You’ve managed to school the Guru!
