Isn’t it just the BOSE headphones that are great, and not necessarily the phone’s music playback hardware?

Actually, Zyborg, the N81 was designed specifically for music playback, and features a dedicated sound processing chip, for superior quality. I tested it against the N95-3 and N82 and you can tell a sizable difference in music through the 3.5mm audio jack. So it’s half-and-half.

Yup, Zyborg, Ricky is right. The music quality is far superior on the N81 (tested against the N95 8gb, both of them with BOSE). It is even noticeably better than the iPod (point 10 in my euphoric post). So yes, the N81 is great, the BOSE are great but both together are perfect!

Adam, they are not wireless, they have a wire with 3.5mm plug. They are noise-canceling and extremely high-quality, that’s why they cost the extra money. Usually when I used to turn the volume to 100% on any headphone, I would hear some white noise in the background and the quality would drop dramatically. Not on the bose. Still, I would’ve loved it if they were wireless ;)

Yep, the N81 sounds supremely louder and crisper than any other device, it’s not just the Bose headphones.
I wish for some A2DP enabled ones, that would be awesome!

I have the normal N81 and just got the Bose TriPort OE.
It’s the same construction as the QC3, except missing the noise-cancelling function, but the sound reproduction is the same. And the cost is much less.

Let me tell you, the experience is breathtakingly beautiful.
I thought I knew music, until I heard music through the Bose,
nuances, ambiences, vocal characteristics, steel string or nylon string guitar, grand or stand-up piano, all show themselves off with these on your ears.
