I’m sure the v15 for the N95 8GB has been out for a month or so already? All be it for specific Product codes, it’s only inevitable it would be released for the rest of EU and Asia sooner or later.

Do feel for you US folks, but to be honest, why not have a universal band lie the rest of Europe and Asia? You only have yourselves to blame for having your “own” band.

This is very old news.N95 8Gb v15 firmware is available for almost a month and exactly this version adds WRT and FL3 support in the phone:http://europe.nokia.com/A4577225.Probably now it’s available in Italy and that’s why p@asco wrote about it.For v21 of N95-this is known even before v20 came out.Everybody saw it while using Forum Nokia RDA but it is not shure that it’ll be released.

Thanks for the updates, guys. I wasn’t aware of this firmware, and had a bit of trouble translating P@sco’s site.

I totally agree. Bring on the updates for the N95-3!!!

I too totally agree. N95-3 is outdated… No demand paging, therefore slow camera startup and slow slow slow shutter…

This is really sad… I makes me want to sell it and buy an euro version…

….in answer to your last rhetorical question, Ricky, “NO…. its NOT worth it” to buy a NAM phone if there will never be any post-purchase support from Nokia.

…and to Abul, prior commenter…. Should Nokia’s customers in the US be penalized just because the REGULATORS created different bands here? Its nothing that the users did themselves. Can’t anyone let bygones be bygones? Apparently not.

I was under the impression N95-3 was getting regular updates. I guess not and was lost in translation of keeping up with -1 and other N95 models.

Funny…I was thinking of getting an N95-3 after enjoying the Nseries features of the N75 (while a crummy device overall it’s got some merits). Just last night I told my wife I’d pick the N95 over the iPhone. I think I’ll slip my $500 back into my wallet for the time being.

Nokia has been, and continues, to send out mixed signals about their US offerings. Despite all the great dialogues and interactions it seems more of the same. Zilch.

Hearing back from Nokia Corporate would be nice. I’m a little surprised Ricky and Darla don’t have a better line to them.

I am NOT going to drop $500 on abandonware. I did that with the E61 (great device if you want the bugs in perpetuity), again with my (free) N75. Not again Nokia.

There’s a saying… Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Jesus.. the N95-3 has only been out a few months and already all this bitching.. do you have any evidence that Nokia WILL NOT support them and WILL NOT bring firmware updates? It is rather obvious that they first work on updates to models that have already sold millions of unit, and then work on models that have sold a few hunded thousand units (if even that). Give them a break, for once.

Well, how come the N95 8GB and the N95-1 are getting updates, and the -3 isn’t? The phones aren’t all that different.

The branded firmware for the N75 is more like cripple-ware, too, but that’s more ATT’s fault than Nokia’s.

I get the feeling that Nokia and ATT are going to have to come to an understanding, because Nokia keeps making faster, better, and more data-intensive phones, and ATT keeps trying to screw them up, limit bandwidth, and so on.

Viipottaja – I don’t intend to constantly complain. However, the N95-3 was available several months before the N95 8GB, which has already received 3 firmware updates, by my count. The N95-1 has also received several updates.

Regardless, it isn’t about the number of firmware updates released, it’s the features that have been (and apparently are soon) added to the N95 8GB and N95-1.

I purchased an unlocked N95-1 in the US in early July and have only had it update once (Late July) even though I check it at least once a month.

I would like an update to help speed things up and if one does not come up, I may delete extra apps and use factory reset to get the little guy back into fighting strength.

    Ricky,

Let me tell you something more frustrating. I am an owner of N95-1 with U.S. product code, and NSU says that my firmware is up-to-date, despite the latest firmware available for several months.

I am sad for N95-3 owners, but I am sure that Nokia will eventually release a firmware for you guys –they must be freak otherwise.

However, considering the fact that Nokia did not make the last firmware update available for N95-1 with U.S. product codes, I guess they would not make the future updates available as well, because I feel that they’ve ceased their support for N95-1s with U.S. product codes…

You may say “why don’t you change your product code”, but I don’t want to void my warranty…

The post about Nokia’s sales figures in the US give hint to their operations over here. For all we know they could throw their hands in the air in the US (we give up!) and focus on Europe (etc) where they clearly have the advantage.

Nokia has a long history of abandoning devices – period. Imagine if Microsoft NEVER updated Windows XP or Vista and you had to live with the security holes and bugs. You wouldn’t stand for it.

    Or perhaps you’d go elsewhere.

I’ve been saying this for over a year now. Kudos to Ricky and Darla for putting up with it…

I so want to love Nokia and indulge but I don’t throw my cash around like I did in my 20s. I need to know my already outdated piece of electronics will at least be maintained for a few years.

Not so with the E61. Doubtful with the carrier-branded N75. These are just two out of many devices.

    Rant done.

    [...] New Firmware For N95, N95 8GB Coming Soon [...]

Obviously, I couldn’t agree with you more, Ricky. Every morning I connect my N95-3 to PC Suite in hopes of an update. It’s a lousy and defeating way to start the day. :(

There’s all this talk about making a big showing in North America all the time, and it just doesn’t seem like much is happening.

It’s rough to be a loyal Nokia consumer over here sometimes.

    Ricky -

I couldn’t agree more… how about adding the E70-2 to this list… they left that to die on the vine while the E70-1 got another firmware update fixing issues… This upsets me as well as I purchased the N95-1 in the US at the Nokia Store, then sold it to get the N95-3 but didn’t expect they would leave us without the firmware updates that the N95 8GB and N95-1 were getting… As much as I love this phone, it’s very frustrating that Nokia keeps “pretending” to be committed to the US market!

well if nokia doesn’t want to give us updates maybe we can start a petition of some kinda and submit it as we do pay a lot of money for these devices.

Well, what is perhaps the most frustrating for us impatient sorts is that you can’t swap product codes with EURO1 or other N95-1 releases and artificially get your update. We are stuck with the v11 firmware until Nokia releases another US update for the N95-3.
