S60 & Nokia @ Mobile World Congress

Mobile World Congress, previously known as 3GSM, is one of the largest mobile exhibition that takes place in February of each year, in Barcelona, Spain. All the usual suspects are there, all device manufacturers and platform developers, and many many other. As you must have deduced from the title, Nokia will be there, as well as S60.

Nokia have their MWC site up an running. You can find the Nokia Keynote details as well as their vision and the theme “Share More. Experience More.” You can also subscribe to receive email updates from Nokia during the MWC.

Also, Saraa, from the See into S60 blog has posted S60’s plan for this event which include:

- S60 touch UI
- S60 sensor technologies
- S60 internet browsing
- S60 Internet innovation enablers (Web runtime and FlashLite runtime evolution with Service APIs)
- S60 native development platform (Open C evolution, C++, Python)
- S60 and Internet community services
- S60 device showcase
- The infamous Tune my S60 kiosk

I am really excited to see if any details regarding the Touch UI will be unveiled or not. As many of you know by now, I am one fervent believer in the touchscreen OS, and have always wanted S60 and Nokia to manufacture a touchscreen device, even before the iPhone. I even delved into the touch UI announcement a while ago and tried to make the most of it. Now I wish we will be treated with more than that one old video. It’s about time we had something substantial to look at.

I am also seriously annoyed that I won’t be able to make it to the Congress myself, the guys at WOM World were nice enough to invite me and I was really eager to attend it, but I can’t. I would also like to hear more about OVI from Nokia and see N-Gage finally launched. What do you think will be unveiled in MWC, what do you think will stay under the hood? What are you mostly looking for?
