KEYnetik has officially released the first beta of their Rock’n'Scroll application for the Nokia N95′s accelerometer. Rock’n'Scroll uses the handset’s accelerometer to allow the user to navigate through the phone’s menu by flicking in the desired direction. There is also a ‘game’ mode that allows for smoother, more continuous motion, as well.
This application basically does the same thing as NokMote, from Samir, which we have covered here on Symbian-Guru.com previously. However, as Samir has several projects going, NokMote has not received much attention from him since its initial beta launch, so any competition is welcomed by us.
I loaded the latest beta of KEYnetik’s Rock’n'Scroll up on my N95-3, and honestly didn’t much care for it. Novelty and gaming aside, I don’t see much use for this type of application, frankly. I’m also not currently using NokMote. However, that’s my personal opinion, and there’s sure to be plenty of readers who disagree. Those that want to test it out for themselves, should head over to the KEYnetik forums.
As this is a beta release, they’re asking that bloggers not host the file themselves, but encourage interested individuals to register for their support forums (it’s free), to encourage feedback for future releases. Also note that this application is currently unsigned, so you will need to self-sign it using a certificate.
