I absolutely love the enhancements in Feature Pack 2.

My favorites are tag clusters for the gallery, separate Image and Video galleries, the new more efficient Active Standby and optimizations on the web browser.

    Here’s my beef:
I cant think of a good reason not to back port FP2 onto FP1 phones. The hardware on the new stuff seems to be similar to their predecessors. The FP1 phones like the 6110, 6120 and N81 all have the same 369 mhz processor as the 6210, 6220, and N78.

Windows Mobile 6 has been back ported to many phones that shipped with Windows Mobile 5.

Even Nokia made OS 2008 from the N810 available for the N800.

Throw us FP1 owners a bone please!

I don’t think Nokia works that way. Have they ever added a feature-pack upgrade to an already shipped device?

Theoretically though, it does seem like it could be done. Windows Mobile 6 roms can and have been installed on phones that shipped with WM 5 and even WM 2003.

Nokia needs to change the way they work then.

Forcing me to buy a new device for just for a new OS sucks.

Last year, Eldar from mobile review got his hands on a 6290 running with an early build of Feature Pack 2. It definitely can be done.

Very nice indeed. But you will get bored with them eventually, it looks like they slow down the navigation a little bit. I hope you can turn them off.

I also like those transition effects. This is what s60 needed(no more damn boring menus without eye candy). I don’t think that they slow down the UI but sometimes, it would be nice if you could turn them off. You will see that when you play with the device.

I agree… makes the device seem much slower, and there should be an option to shut them off. Windows Mobile used to have animated menus turned on by default, but they made navigation so much slower. Even though it’s less than a second that you have to wait for an animation to finish before entering your next command, that’s a lot longer than “instant” and the frustration adds up. If the animations were much faster, it would be okay.

Rightly said. Nokia should make the latest FPs backward compatible. At least the base version is S60 3rd edition.
