Samsung G810 To Challenge the Nokia N95

samsung-g810Mobil.cz has a picture of what’s claimed to be the Samsung G810 S60 device. I don’t read czech, but Unwired View does, and they’re supposing a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and anti-shake technology. Here’s the rest of the rumored specs:

  • GSM/UMTS/3.6 Mbps HSDPA connectivity
  • Symbian 9.2 OS with S60 3.1 UI (That’s S60v3 Feature Pack I, in case you were wondering)
  • 2.6″ 262K Color QVGA TFT display
  • 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, anti-shake, face recognition, macro mode, autofocus, etc;
  • 150 MB of memory and microSD memory card slot
  • GPS navigation
  • Wi-FI b/g
  • Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, USB 2.0 (microUSB connector)
  • 1200 mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 104mm × 52mm × 18 mm (contrasted to the N95’s 99mm x 53mm x 21.1 mm)

Knowing Samsung, this’ll be tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz), which severely limits the popularity here in the States. I am excited to finally see someone not focusing on megapixel count, but instead looking to enhance the photo-taking experience with optical zoom and anti-shake technology. The rest is rather ho-hum, and the size sounds nice.

Personally, I’m excited about seeing other manufacturers take a stab at S60 devices. With only one manufacturer using the OS, innovation is encouraged, but it’s not necessarily a focus. Having Samsung and LG making S60 devices would be great for S60, I think, as it would spur Nokia to continue to innovate at a faster rate.
