Smartphones Show Ep 53 - Mobile World Congress ‘08

Steve’s brought us Episode 53 of his Smartphones Show, and it seems each episode gets better than the rest. In this episode, he shares some thoughts on the Mobile World Congress 2008, as well as an appearance from Matt at AllAboutiPhone.com.

As always, you can subscribe to the Smartphones Show in several different ways using the show’s RSS feed, or simply downloading the Symbian-Guru OPML file, which makes it easy and contains several other mobile and Symbian-related podcasts.

A quick note: In the Nokia Podcasting application, I’m aware that both the Smartphones Show and Driving with the Guru show up as ‘incompatible’ with the device, via a warning notification. Rest assured, both shows play just fine on S60v3 handsets, so you can cruise past that notification.

  1. Yup. 100% compatible. Strange thing this warning, since if you add the feeds of the Smartphones Show and/or Driving with the Guru to the Video Centre, no such warning appears. So it’s only a Podcasting application thing.

  2. Vlad - thanks for the comments, dude. That IS strange, I’d not looked at the Video Center as an option. I wonder if there’s a way for me to easily create a button you guys can press when browsing on your mobile that would add DWTG to the Nokia Video Center?

On the other hand, the negative side of that is that there’s no way for the Video Center to automatically update and download new content. It’s all manual. Perhaps one day they’ll marry the two together?

  3. Btw, the opml file is a great idea in my opinion. I’ll link to it. It goes without saying that I hope it will be updated as soon as any other interesting podcasts make their way on the net.

  4. Ricky- well I think they DO need to make ONE app of the two. It was highly confusing at first (even to me, who, I might say, am a ‘geek’ kike you) to have the same functionality in two different apps. Imagine how your average Joe will feel. One of many such issues, of duplicating functions, in my opinion. I hope they’ll fix these soon.
And yes, even stranger is the fact that the Video centre can’t automatically update. But, unlike the Podcasting app, it can show thumbnails. What a mess! :)

  5. Look here for adding a direct link that will be opened by Video centre:

  6. Thanks for the link. As to adding Podcasts to the OPML file, please feel free to alert me to any and I’ll check them out. I think it’s the best way to make it super-easy for people to discover the good stuff out there.

  7. Agreed. Right now, except for MoBuzzTV and KenRadio, those were exactly my subscriptions. :)
