Unimpressive Nokia N96 Specs Leak

n96_2Nokia really pissed the Germans off, enough that someone at the Nokia Germany site felt the need to leak the official specs for the as-yet-unannounced N96 flagship slider, which we will likely see at the Mobile World Congress 2008, which starts on Monday. The site’s down, but Stefan at IntoMobile has the specs listed, which I’ve copied below.

Color me unimpressed, but it sure seems like this is an N95 with a few slight tweaks and new software. I’m completely saddened by the pathetic battery. After the N80 and N95-1, how on earth does Nokia believe that 950mAh is enough to power this behemoth?

Specs:

  • Quadband EDGE
  • Dualband HSDPA 850/2100 MHz
  • DVB-H Class C
  • 125 gram weight
  • 103 x 55 x 18 mm
  • 16 GB internal memory AND a microSD slot; 24 GB total if you spend an extra $80
  • 950 mAh battery
  • 2.8 inch 320×240 display with 16 million colors
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • WiFi (802.11b/g)
  • AGPS
  • 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens that also does VGA video recording at 30 FPS, Dual LED flash that can also be used when video recording!
  • S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (Flash Lite 3 enabled web browser included)
  • microUSB

Anyways, I really honestly hope this isn’t all that Nokia has up their sleeves for MWC.

    LED flash again? Okay it’s a double LED flash but still why not a Xenon flash like the N82? Why not a HVGA screen like the iPhone (that’s the only thing I love about Apple’s mobile) and when will Nokia add an optical zoom to their N-Series devices?

    The first pictures and “estimated specs” of the N96 looked great and I was wondering if I had bought the N95 8GB to early … seeing the specs now I’m not regretting the purchase.

    I’ll pass.

    I’m happy with my N95-3. The fact that is has 16GB of built in flash means nothing to me. Secondly, I don’t even like the look of it.

    The only redeeming feature is FP2.

    They best have something better up their sleeves.

    I like most of it… it’s just the screen res and the battery that I’m not happy about.

    I personally like the design. Though the battery and lack of US 3G kinda hurts. Hope the software’s UI updates can make up for the ck of what otherwise looks like a minor hardware one.

    dont think nokia is foolish to introduce same kinda design again.

    It has been almost a year, we havnt seen a new N-series apart from updated N95 8gb.

    also the specs could be wrong too.

    (In my Research I found that,It cud have something to do with nokia closing germany manufacturing unit,so in protest the german webmaster leaked the false n96 specs) .I am sure rather 6 or 8 mp camera is on the cards.

    Looks so very plastic.
    N95 8GB is ALSO plastic, but this looks awful!!!

    And whats the rationale behind LED & the stong battery….Defies logic!!!

    Think am gonna stick to my N95 8GB ;)
