Welcome To The New Symbian-Guru.com

As I’m sure you can tell, we’ve done some serious renovating here at Symbian-Guru, and I’m really excited to introduce the new design today. I think that you’ll find it’s cleaner and makes it alot easier to find new and interesting content. Please remember that it’s always a work in progress, and I love to get any feedback, positive or negative, on the new design.

I’ve put together a quick video showing off the new features, which you can find back on the home screen, but I want to point out a few things, as well:

1. The site mobilization is currently broken, due to the new design. This was something I was unable to test until it went live, so apologies. I’ve got a plugin installed that will at least allow you to view the site on your mobile, though it’s admittedly not the prettiest way to go about it. Look for this to improve steadily both in looks and function.

2. There are a few niggles here and there that will be addressed over time. There’s only so much you can test in an offline environment. The content beneath the video unit will change repeatedly over the next week or so as I tinker with what looks best and what works.

3. Please report anything that you find that’s broken, or that you think looks like complete garbage. I’m aware of the image resizing issue on the full post pages, and am hunting down the code to fix that. It’s hidden rather well in this layout.

All in all, I hope that with the new site design, it will be easier for you to not only keep up with what’s new, but also be able to explore the site a bit easier, and find content that’s perhaps slightly older, but still really useful. There’s plenty more new features coming soon, so stay tuned.

  1. Looks nice, but have to say I am not at least immediately in love with the new design. So many tabs to click through to find stuff - maybe be good for peopel who visit your site less often though. Btw, where is the link to Tablet-Guru? The old lay out had it nice and easy to find. Also, the video screen in the middle makes all the articles on the left jammed to a narrow column, limiting their readability and number of posts that are shown on the home screen..

  2. I love the new site. I can actually navigate around much better on it. (And this is coming from someone that is not always internet friendly). I think people don’t like change so they might not like it at first but with time comes change. Plus, everyone will have their own opinions but you need to do what you want. Congrats Guru, keep up the good work.

  3. @Viipottaja - the link to Tablet-Guru is there on the far right column, the image links to the site.

The latest 10 headlines are always visible directly on the main screen, in the box to the right of the Features box, so they’re easy to find without needing to scroll at all.

  4. Ricky,

I am diggin the new look. It looks cleaner than the last one, keep that goin.

    Cheers,
    Matt

  8. I’d rather like the previous version, seriously. This one is not that bad though…

  9. Congrats on the new design. Looks pretty nice.

  10. Nice, an improvement in my opinion.
Can’t wait for the mobile version though, as thats how I primarily view the site.
