Blue N95 Headed To Japan, Why Not The U.S.?

Blue N95 Headed To Japan, Why Not The U.S.?

You may recall last year that I was obsessed with the blue color of the Nokia N73, which was released for Softbank, a Japanese carrier. I think it’s such a classy blue color, and was completely thrilled to find out that the N95-1 was being released in the same color scheme. However, sadly, again this color on the N95-1 was only for Softbank in Japan. The rest of the world will not be privy to this beautiful color, and that’s a crying shame.

I then began to think back to the Motorola RAZR’s success here in the U.S. specifically, and recalled how it was originally released in standard silver, followed by a rainbow of different colors, with the same guts, and people would actually sign a new 2-year contract and pay more money to simply get a new color of the same stupid phone.

I began to wonder, what if Nokia started releasing these other colors of hot handsets here in the U.S.? They’ve clearly given up on the Xpress-On covers, and this is a wise decision. These were plastic replacement covers for handsets, typically the older TDMA handsets (though there were a few GSM models) that consumers could purchase and change at home to give a new color to their handset.

I’m certainly not calling for a rehash of the Xpress-Ons, but I would very much like to see more colors of these hot Nseries handsets such as the N95 and upcoming N96 in different colors. This lovely blue shade is classy and subtle, and I personally would LOVE to see the N95-3 launched in this color, or even maybe the N78 as it comes to the U.S. market soon.

What do you think? Am I alone in my fascination with this blue color scheme? Do you think it would be a good move to offer more case colors in the U.S. and other markets?

  1. I actually miss the Xpress-On covers. I never had to worry about scratching the faceplate or be burdened with a proper case.

  2. But you know that you can change the rear casing of the N95? Seems like the Nokia Service Partners in Germany have a really nice black one.
Some pictures, but it’s a german site: http://www.symbian60.mobi/2008/03/24/schwarzes-cover-fuer-das-n95/ and http://www.telefon-treff.de/showthread.php?s=&threadid=338992

  3. True, apparently you can change the back cover. No blue, though.
More colors is fine with me. More exclusive colors, not. There’s this blue for Softbank, there’s the entirely black N95-1 in Italy, and so on. Nokia need to prove that they are a global company by making such variations, well, available globally. :D

  4. I’d love to have the red for my N95-1 that is only for the -3. I think that one looks great, as well as the black. I would take the blue, red and black :)

  5. You are certainly not alone my fried.

I too agree with you that more colours should be available, This idea for the N95-1 is great!! but i doubt it’ll catch on to the N96 or N78.

The reason i say this is because nokia tried to give those phones (inclluding the N81) a kind of glossy piano black look. Changing it to any other colour simply wouldnt give the same effect.

But for the N95-1 and other Nseries, i say why not!
