BlueText From Psiloc Offers Texting From Your Desktop
In dead competition with Nokia Beta Labs’ Text Messenger, which is Vista-only, comes Psiloc’s BlueText application, which is compatible with Windows XP (sorry Mac users and Linux lovers, you get no recognition here). You’ll also need to have Bluetooth enabled on your PC, which, if you watched last week’s Driving With The Guru episode, you’ll know it costs as little as $20 for a USB Bluetooth dongle.
BlueText is a simple application that installs on your computer and connects to your phone via Bluetooth. It will also install an application to your phone, which is only compatible with S60v3 handsets. When you receive a new message, BlueText will check your contacts list and match the name and number, if possible. You can then respond easily through the interface.
It’s also possible to use BlueText to create new messages, including the ability to choose a recipient from your phone’s address book. There is a battery indicator, as well as the ability to show your phone’s IMEI.
BlueText is available directly from Psiloc’s website and costs $15.20. There’s no mention of a trial period, but I would assume you’d have a few days to test it out.
Update: Just cause we love you, we here at Symbian-Guru.com managed to snag 5 license keys to give away. As usual, this will be a random drawing, just leave a comment with an estimate on the number of SMS you blow through each month to be entered. No purchase necessary and all that jazz. THE CODES HAVE BEEN SENT OUT.

Somewhere around 300 sms messages a month
I send around 350 SMSes a month.
It competes with the Nokia version by releasing an XP version? Shouldn’t be too difficult to release something for Mac and Linux users, should it? I’ve had 10 txt message months and 650 txt message months. I’d love some desktop integration for my Ubuntu laptop though.
about 500 a month.
@Kevin - apologies for the confusion, Bluetext is compatible with both Vista and XP.
I did get a response from Psiloc that there are currently no plans to port this to OSX or Linux.
And me about 200 SMSes a month
For Linux there’s PhoneManager: http://live.gnome.org/PhoneManager .
I tend send about 200-250 a month
I usually do about 5000 texts a month lol. BTW, nice work on the mobile site Ricky.
Nice…sounds like a useful app. Thanks for the heads up Ricky. I use about 2000 sms a month.
I send around 900 of my 1000 allowance a month. Prefer my texting over my call at times
And I’m doing 30-50 sms a month. Nothing spectacular
Around 500, I suppose.
Doesn’t Nokia PC Suite do this already?
i’m from austria and i’ve a flat-sms rate. but i send about 200-300 sms per month. i’ve tested this trial version and i’m very glad about this tool but it’s not for free.
my rate: its easier and better than the nokia pc-suite, so peoples, check it out!!!
Oh easily 50 a month. Nah seriously I can’t have an SMS bundle on my plan (calls and data). That said my txt’ing is sooo bad I’m sure BlueText would help me out no end (and maybe stop my missus laughing every time she sees me trying to figure out a word).
