Invisio G5 Earns A Spot In My Ear

Invisio G5 Earns A Spot In My Ear

Two or three years ago, I bought a Nextlink Bluespoon AX Bluetooth headset because it was the smallest one on the market at the time, and I absolutely loved it. When I got the opportunity to review its sexy little sister, the Invisio G5, I was pumped. The Invisio G5 is a teeny tiny Bluetooth headset that seriously packs a punch, and has taken over as my headset of choice.

Weighing in at a measly 7.8g (.27oz), you may completely forget that you’re wearing the Invisio G5. The headset uses Nextlink’s patented SoftSpring ear hooks, and I personally find these insanely comfortable, not to mention the most secure way to attach a headset to your ear. These small rubbery hooks wrap around the inner part of your outer ear to comfortably keep the headset on. I can do jumping jacks, go for a jog, or any other similar activities, and that headset will NOT come out.  The picture below shows JUST the earhook in place in my ear. The long skinny part curves up and around, exerting slight pressure to keep a good hold. The hooks come with a rather long earpiece, and you’re supposed to trim it a few millimeters at a time, until it fits just right. I can wear my headset all day long and completely forget it’s there. There is no soreness or anything at the end of the day. And yes, I’m aware I need a haircut. SoftSpring In-Ear

The Invisio G5 comes with a couple spare ear hooks, along with a miniUSB charging cord and case. The headset itself does not have a charging port. However, it comes with a really innovative case that looks like an oversized Zippo lighter, which has a battery built in. The Invisio G5’s USB charging and carrying case is an especially good accessory for such a small headset due to its internal battery. When you place the G5 inside the case and connect the power cable, it first charges the headset, and then begins to charge the case’s internal battery. The case is able to store enough extra juice to fully recharge the Invisio G5 five times, providing up to 20 hours of talk time without the need for connecting it to a wall or computer. There is a row of indicator lights on the side showing the current battery level of both the case and the headset.

The Invisio G5 has 3 buttons - one main function button and 2 volume keys. The main button covers almost the entire outside of the headset, making it extremely easy to find and press. The volume buttons are conveniently located on the sides of the headset, with a multi-color LED indicator light located at the base of the sound column.

Invisio G5 and CasePaired with my Nokia N95-3, the Invisio G5 works wonderfully, automatically connecting upon being turned on, and offering plenty of calling options. I can answer an incoming call my simply pressing the main button once, or reject it by holding it down for a few seconds. I can also press it once in standby to activate the N95’s speaker independent voice dialing, which I use all the time in the car. The N95 will also play music through the headset, though in mono mode, and not exactly high quality. However, it’s good enough to have a soundtrack while grocery shopping or walking around the mall or something.

The call quality is excellent, with most callers unable to even tell that I’m using a Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, the headset is nearly useless in high wind or outdoors. Indoor, but loud environments such as a big warehouse are much better. I’m able to use the Invisio G5 easily in my truck, mounted on my right ear, with the driver’s side window down.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Invisio G5 Bluetooth headset if you’re looking for an incredibly small Bluetooth headset with great sound quality and easy to press buttons. However, if you work in an extremely loud environment, or outdoors, you may want to look into a headset with better noise cancellation. For indoor office usage or a quiet car, it’s definitely a winner.
