JoikuSpot Updated To v1.1, WEP Coming Soon
JoikuSpot is a free application for your S60v3 handset that basically turns your phone into a wireless router. The cellular data connection is used as the incoming feed, and the phone’s WiFi is used to broadcast a signal, so that your laptop or Nokia N810 Internet Tablet can use it as a hotspot.
AT&T’s Uverse sucks unbelievably, and they’ve been having an outage in the DFW area apparently for 3-4 days, so I’ve been without stable home internet. Luckily, I have my N95-3 with HSDPA, and have been using JoikuSpot as my lifeline since Monday evening.
It’s definitely something you’ll want to have on your phone, just in case you need connectivity, and quick, without hassling about with tethering. Updates in v1.1 include various bug fixes and stability improvements, along with the ability for the user to rename the Access Point created.
WEP security, a feature that is much needed if you intend to use JoikuSpot at the airport or anything, is said to be coming within a month in another update. Unfortunately, FTP access and Outlook are still unavailable, as are any https addresses.

Thanks to PseudoFinn at Nokiausers.net for the tip.

Thanks for the info. The multiple accesspoints were killing me. Joikuspot does support https though. You just need to set the browser to detect proxy automatically.
You’ll be happy to also hear that “Other protocols such as IMAP (mail) or FTP do not work. The final version will include NAT allowing most protocols.”
Most likely AT&T will be up and running by then…. but you never know.
