Yup, it’s finally here! Everyone was talking about it, waiting for it, wanting it. And now it’s here! The official N95-1 firmware update is now official and available. This update brings most importantly Flash lite 3 which will let you play flash videos immediately in the browser (YouTube and the likes), Web runtime which brings widget support.
Steve Litchfield from AAS has just unearthed this news and he reports the following changelog:
- Flash Lite 3 is included, so Flash video sites will work, including YouTube (just as on the N95 8GB v15 firmware from a couple of months ago)
- The Web runtime is included, meaning that standalone widgets are now possible
- Greater Bluetooth headset compatibility
- Better handling of entering lots of text into web page dialogs
- Speedier Gallery in every way
- Faster Java runtime, so Java apps start faster
- plus the usual miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks, no doubt!
You can jump over to AAS to see some screenshots of YouTube working.
I am now in the process of looking for my USB cable to start the update myself. Though, to tell you the truth, I personally am mostly bumped about the faster Gallery, as this is the feature that I use frequently. For flash videos, there’s emTube and Mobitubia which I compared a while ago. Both of them work perfectly well. I have tried the new version of Mobitubia and am very pleased with the improvements, the lag times I complained about in my review are mostly gone and this by itself pumped the application a lot in my opinion.
Ricky: To those of you who’ve weathered it out with your old N95-1, congratulations. Enjoy your update. Also, I realize this update was covered across the blogosphere over the past few weeks. However, at that point, it was not available to end users through NSU, and thus, it’s not really newsworthy, in my opinion. I don’t want to make readers waste time sitting there checking firmware constantly for something that’s not there.
