Nokia Working With MicroCenter For Retail Space
I caught this image on my Flickr feed from ohl@work, a Nokia employee. He was in the MicroCenter store in Cambridge, MA and noticed this rather impressive endcap featuring several unlocked Nokia devices. Though the prices are much higher than what you’ll find online, I’m still extremely impressed to see ANY Nokia products in an American retail outlet, much less several slightly recent models, and unlocked to boot!
A few personal notes, I don’t like that the Internet Tablets are grouped in with the phones, specifically with the banner marking ‘Unlocked Phones’. The Internet Tablets are already confused with phones by most online reviewers, and marketing such as this isn’t helping the situation.
However, it’s a very nicely done display, and I like that they’re not under lock and key. The products are easily accessible to consumers, and very much encourage the purchase being similar to a stereo or CD player. Pick it up, pay, and walk out. No need to bother with your carrier.
I would like to see, in the future, Nokia adding a small education section/banner, where SIM cards are explained. I think that would go a long way, personally. Thanks to GSM, most consumers know what their SIM card is, regardless of the fact that they’ll likely refer to it as their sims card or whatever.
Have you seen any Nokia displays in a retail outlet around you?

BestBuy’s been carrying some of the high-end N-Series devices like the N95-3 and the N810 for a while now.
