ShoZu Updates Mobile Client, Releases Desktop App

ShoZu, one of my favorite applications, has not only updated their mobile client to v4.0, they’ve also released a desktop application, based on the Adobe AIR platform. It’s really simple, and allows you to drag and drop media which is then forwarded to your set destinations. There’s no options, as everything is set through your account on their website. If you have a family member looking to upload pictures online easily, it would be a great way to set them up. Doesn’t get much easier, really.

The new mobile client sports a new streamlined interface, with the same great functionality. You can still set the uploading options to send your pictures and videos pretty much anywhere you want them to, and you can set CC destinations, allowing multiple simultaneous uploads.

They have also added an update status feature, so that you can update the status on any number of different services, keeping your friends up-t0-date on what you’re up to. However, I’m unable to find this in the settings, oddly. There’s been miscellaneous improvements to the commenting feature, as well as adding the ability to pull your friends’ Flickr feeds into your phone.

James Whatley is reporting that this new version doesn’t geo-tag properly, requiring the actual application to be running in the background of your phone. However, if, like me, you’re not too concerned with geo-tagging your media, it seems to be a grand slam.

The best part, in my opinion, is that those silly ZuCasts are no longer present. I like ShoZu and all, but there are several service options that just seem like they’re searching for new features, whether or not they’re related to their core service - which is to make it as simple as possible for me to upload my media.

To be completely honest, as soon as Share Online allows me to specify that all images and videos are AUTOMATICALLY uploaded, I’ll likely dump ShoZu. That’s not meant to ditch on ShoZu, but just reiterating that sometimes, it’s ok to have just one function, and excel at that function. ShoZu is a utility to me, and it seems silly to try to be more than that.

In any case, try the new versions out, see what you think. Also, don’t forget, you can use ShoZu to upload to Ovi Share easily by selecting the email option, and entering your Ovi Share uploading email.

  1. I really don’t like the idea of having every new image automatically uploaded. If I add someone as a friend on N-Gage, I dont want their avatar showing up on my flickr stream.

  2. Heh, and as soon as Ovi share is scheduled for my E90 I might actually pay attention to it.

End the E and N series software differences, Nokia!

    Sheesh!

  3. Ok, I thought I was reading Vaibhav’s blog. WTF? Am I having eye trouble? It’s not like your site designs are alike. Probably hitting links in bloglines faster than I can process WHERE I’m going.
    Anyway. Apologies Ricky.

  4. I’ve not even tried Nokia Share because I don’t want Nokia to do everything, just concentrate on what it needs to do. That said Nokia are great at exploring new things. If noone exploits the GPS then along comes Sportstracker, but why try to catch up with Shozu which is providing such a good service (Nokia doesn’t need to emulate Microsoft). As for Geotagging I use Locr which I’ve always found to be superior to Shozu (but haven’t tried shozu for a while)
